The appeal of some movies rests as much or more in their sound tracks as in any other aspect. Two examples of that in the adventure category are Dances With Wolves and Last Of The Mohicans. In the romance category I was very much taken by the love themes in The Scarlet Letter and, more recently, Closer.

I watched Closer for the sixth or seventh time last night. In spite of the clever and engrossing story, the English setting (to which I am partial), and the flawless performances of Jude Law, Julia Roberts, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman, I would be quite tired of it by now were it not for the love theme, which is very special. So much so that I've wondered why it isn't high on the list of popular music. Here is a You tube link: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a5nmO1P5lo]The blower´s daughter - Damien Rice (With Lyrics) - YouTube[/ame]

In looking more deeply at such a beautiful but obscure love song (by Damien Rice) I discovered it's been treated in a kind of fado style by a lovely (and popular) Portugese singer, Ana Carolina. And here is a link to that version. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evIYzh96LKU]Ana Carolina amp Seu Jorge The Blowers Daughter version - YouTube[/ame]

PS: Don't be put off by the title of this piece. The song is originally associated with an old story about the daughter of a heroic blaster in the mining trade, which is a "blower" in British colloquial.
