Confederate Memorial at Arlington will be removed despite GOP opposition

US bases are federal property not state property. States do not just get to consume them and seize the assets
States set the laws on that property, moron, not the federal government. If a citizen of that state sues someone on the military base, then the courts in that state will hear the case. The staff on the base are required to pay state taxes.

:fu:

It was federal property, not territory. It was still within the borders of South Carolina. The federal government owns the Post Office down the street from where I live. Does that mean Congress gets to charge me property taxes?
You attack Federal property (specifically a military installation) and you have attacked the United States

Full stop

Nope. What if you attack a office space leased by the Dep of Commerce in Tijuana?

The threat that freeing those slaves would allow them to compete for THEIR jobs
They were poor farmers with no money to pay freed blacks

White farmers worked the land with their own hands to grow the only food they would have to eat for the coming year

Plus wild animal meat that they hunted for

Furthermore, foreign countries have told the US to remove military bases located there, and the US was forced to vacate them. What to you imagine would have happened if the U.S. had refused to leave Subic Bay when asked to?

Only if you count wives and children as slave owners

Which gives you a misleading number of 30%
The reality was that the plantation owner owned almost all the slaves. Wives and children may have owned personal servants

Overseers and other whites on the plantation did not own the slaves but earned their income off of them.

Local white owned businesses bought and sold goods and services to the plantation. Even though they didn’t “own” slaves, they profited off of them.

So the reality was that very few southerners actually owned slaves while 40 percent of the population was in bondage

White farmers were share croppers that freed slaves would compete for.
Poor whites also performed menial labor that freed slaves would compete for

I think the statue should be moved to a museum. It is part of history and if we forget history we are doomed to repeat it. The Confederacy should not be idolized and glorified, however.

Just another double standard. Democrats attack Republicans for what you did. Slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow, all Democrat programs. You attack Republicans for what you did. It's the Democrat way. Like Trump was impeached for what Hillary did, then he was impeached for what Pedo Joe did. It never changes.

I'll believe you aren't one there is substance behind your claim, not arguing the Democrat party ideology and being their attack dog

Many white farmers were sharecroppers

But most were not

And, there was enough farm land for everyone to sharecrop, white and black

Counting families who owned slaves makes a hell of a lot more sense then calculating children in the percentage of people who didn't own slaves which is how you get the 5%. That would be as silly as calculating children in the percentage of people who don't own a home and then concluding owning a home isn't important to people.

And they thought of themselves as at least above slaves in the social pecking order. They were con-ned by slave owners who basically ran the South into fighting for them.

You are living in a time over 150 years ago while TODAYS Republicans fight for Confederate Heritage, monuments and symbols

I don’t see them fighting to acknowledge the four million slaves

No it wasn't. It was a federal installation.

You don't know what "Federal" means, MAGA man.

Psst, KILLER Trumpatar, greatest political photo ever. Trump, coming to a community near you. Tune in January, 2025 for details, MAGA man
