Today’s Gospel is about Jesus advising us it our eye causes us to sin, pluck it out. If our right hand causes us to sin, cut it off. It’s so easy to get caught up in the literal pictures of removing a body part, that we miss the message. Some points from a homily today.
What are we doing that makes us less than who we want to be?
Are we a couch potato, a gamester, eating/drinking the wrong things—what is we are doing that we know we should stop? Cut it off. All the way, right now—and don’t think about just giving it a little trim, because our future selves are relying on the action taken today. Think about it. Restriction—the amputation we make today--is the first step into the freedom of who we plan to be tomorrow and the life we will be living.
For me: I am cutting off ready-made meals because they have me sliding into being a lazy cook. What about you? Is there an amputation you want to make in your life today that will better life for the future you?
