On the Five today they discussed socialist Mayor Deblasio of New York going after Uber....a car app service that is cheaper, faster, safer, cleaner, creates jobs for poor people...good ones, and brings a taxi service into poor neighborhoods that the yellow taxis won't go to......it also doesn't have the history of discriminating against minoritities that the yellow cabs do....

so the socialist Deblasio...showing how democrat policies destroy a city....is against Uber......that is how the left wrecks a city....

When did Uber become safe?
Look at that post^ 2aguy; a typical republican terrified of new things. Good thing there are liberals out there who love Uber or they would go out of business.

Yeah.....they missed the Uber revolution....now their union thug buddies are yanking their leashes and Uber is about to be assaulted by the left wing hate machine....

You should check GOP hero Jan Brewers stance on Uber. I bet Fox won't.

And nvm that Uber was founded in the most liberal city in America and is most popular in cities run and populated by liberals.

Yes...and you can bet that in that most liberal city the public transport system sucks, there is high crime, and a monopoly on the taxi service....they hate Uber here in Chicago as well......

And here we have a look at Uber.....keep in mind...the left hates Uber.....they get around the monopoly in these cities......

Despite Its Problems Uber Is Still The Safest Way To Order A Taxi - Business Insider

There's also no cash involved with Uber, as payments take place through the app. And unlike taxis, you can't hail an Uber off the street. While hailing a taxi is convenient, it opens up passengers to unlicensed taxis operating illegally. And of course, even if you get a taxi from an official rank, you don't know who the person is at the wheel.

Uber also has a system in which passengers and drivers can rate and — if need be — identify one another. The company is notoriously vigilant when it comes to its driver ratings. It has been speculated that any driver that dips below a 4.7 rating out of 5 is deactivated by the company.

In the normal course of business, drivers and riders know only each other's first names. Riders get to know the cars, photos, and license plates of their drivers, too. It's all automatically recorded in the app. If a dispute arises (or an assault), Uber has a complete record of who was in the car, where the car went, and how long the journey was. That's much more identifying info than a taxi ride generates.

Uber's tracking isn't going to prevent crimes. While the idea of being tracked by GPS will deter some drivers from committing crimes, it's unlikely to stop them altogether. And in the recent rape case in New Delhi, local media reports that the accused driver didn't even have GPS tracking. So something there obviously went wrong.

But is Uber safe to use? Well, in general, yes. But that's not to say the app offers a completely secure experience. No company can do that. But the average Uber ride — with its GPS monitoring, cashless payments, real identity recording, and pre-booking — generates more information about who is in the car, and is therefore likely to be generally safer than a normal taxi.

And here we have the reason there is a hard core push to get Uber........

Are Taxis Safer Than Uber - The Atlantic

The questions about Uber’s safety are part of a much larger debate over regulation of what’s come to be known as the sharing economy. And the narrative about Uber rides being inherently more dangerous than taxi transportation is, not surprisingly, being pushed by those most threatened by Uber's success. Calling Uber a "success"—the company is valued at $40 billion—seems like something of an understatement. Uber is trouncing the competition. There were 2 million fewer taxi rides in Washington, D.C., last year compared with the year before, Waters told me—that’s a 9 percent drop in taxi business in a single year.

And about San Francisco....the founding city of Uber.....

And taxi business declined a stunning 65 percent in a two-year period after Uber showed up in San Francisco.

All this is to say that the reputation Uber has as a danger to its passengers is developing against the backdrop of a business fight that Uber appears to be winning swiftly and handily.

Ah thanks for the link. I got to read about how one of Uber's founders compared the system and the success Uber uses to Obamacare, praising Obamacare while noting how similar the two are.

Yeah, liberals really hate Uber

He's already feeling it. To the tune of tens of billions of dollars.

It's all about city medallions have DROPPED in price from $1.2 MILLION to about $600 K today.... YOU figure out the cost to the city with 8.75% SALES TAX on each time a medallion changes hands!

Uber should be allowed to operate. Just stop thinking of it as safe.

I just point out that the left hates Uber....so any flaws they have will be focused on with a laser beam while the same problems with yellow taxi union drivers will be pushed under the rug. The very fact that Rahm Emanuel and Bill Deblasio hate uber means they need to be looked at more closely.....just saying....

Well, it's most popular in over regulated areas that need that kind of 'workaround'. Same way AirBnB works around rent control nonsense.

Democrats hate Uber because there is less opportunity for GRAFT.
