At least, that’s what one smart observer thinks. Over at Commentary, Peter Wehner says that one of the factors behind the trend of increasing liberal media bias was the “rise of Fox News.” As Wehner writes,

For decades progressives had a monopoly on news, which meant they were content to slant the news but not routinely cross the line into advocacy. Interesting concept Jihad, and one I had not given a whole lot of thought to. But it is worth considering.

For sure the mainstream media is no longer in full control of the message with Fox News beating all the other cable news sources combined, with conservative talk radio overwhelming its liberal counterparts out there, and with us with all our collective computers and search engines having ability to explore and research information the media often doesn't take time to do.

It is a not-so-little-known secret that all the mainstream media, including the news services like AP, have long checked in at Drudge and Breitbart and Redstate and such media sites first thing in the morning to see what the breaking news is likely to be. It is common knowledge that talk radio and message boards like USMB have forced the media to deal with some stories they otherwise would have deep sixed.

So it does stand to reason that liberals, who are so often at their silliest and most frantic when they are out of power, would be pushing back against their loss to totally control the message too.
