The vast majority of tax expenditures are put in the tax code by Republicans. It's a way of spending without the dumb rube herd catching on.

Without them, we would have a surplus and lower tax rates.

Instead, we have a unbelievably fucked up situation where entities earning identical incomes are paying radically different taxes.

Anyone who thinks the Right is opposed to government interference in the markets is stunningly ignorant. And they are kept that way deliberately by having their attention misdirected.
