Can anyone give an accepted scholarly definition of socialism?

Socialism which allows man to thrive with no effort from his own hand is a lot different than a socialism providing common infrastructure and protection of private property rights.

It is the former that is the issue.

Actually, there's no difference. Socialism is socialism. It's all bad.

Come on. No common defense, infrastructure or laws ?

Crazytown.

In case you weren't already aware, I'm an anarchist. I don't want government, period. However, that wouldn't mean no common defense, infrastructure or laws.

"We're all socialists now!"- Finland PM when O-Care passed. Socialism is only well-regulated and fair democratic capitalism now. Due to Pub propaganda, half the US believe it's communism.

Communism
Socialism

To them, its all the same.

You should do stand up comedy.

Have you forgotten that people here have been reading your posts for a long time?

Or is it just that you forget what you write?

Define what is meant by socialism, is what I would ask of the poll makers.

You would get similar numbers asking Republicans or Democrats 'do you view capitalism positively?', simply because it isn't issue or situation based.

Anarchist - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary
1: a person who rebels against any authority, established order, or ruling power

"Anarchy" simply means "no government." The historical record shows there is no way to limit government. The only solution to the problem of oppressive government is to eliminate it entirely.

What did I post the makes you think I have forgotten anything I have posted? What's funny about it?

The question fails for the same reason the question “do you believe in god” fails – what is meant by 'socialism,' what is meant by 'god.'

Without a consensus as to the meaning of a given term, 'debate' is impossible and pointless.

Communism
Socialism

To them, its all the same.

What's the practical difference?
Depends on the movement, and how they seek their aims. Socialism as a wider movement is usually represented by democratic socialists and social democrats through the democratic process. Whereas Communism is usually represented by radical unionists, intellectuals, and protest movements - it dislikes the political system as it is 'capitalist'. Both are fueled by distrust of the 'capitalist system', but one believes in working within the system and the other changing it through revolutionary action.

Disagree with socialism. The free market provides better service at a cheaper cost than government ever will. Socialism exist so liberal politicians can give bureaucratic jobs to lazy people.

Who gives you better service US Postal Service, or FedEx? How enjoyable was your time at the IRS or Social Security Office last time? What about the Obamacare fiasco? Remember the enjoyable experience you had at the DMV? Give this to free market investors and they will make it work. When you compete for market share and your not propped up by federal funds and civil service regulations , customer service is much better. "Can I help you sir?" As opposed to "Next!...oh I'm sorry , your in the wrong line."

Sounds like a difference of means not a difference of ends.

So define Socialism.

I'm interested. How do you have laws without government? What would make the laws enforceable?

Americans are well-trained when it comes to obeying their corporate masters, and it is unlikely that they would embrace such a "horrible" thing as socialism--even if they do not even have a full understanding of what it is. Most Americans don't actually know how to define Capitalism--they confuse it with "free market" processes and "competition." Capitalism infers neither of those.

Sorry to say it, but most Americans are somewhat retarded in varying degrees.

Put your hash pipe down, asshole. Quit acting like the whole world is corrupt, that we are slaves to the "blah blah blah industrial complex", and that you know what the fuck is going on in the world around you. I hope you choke on a hacky sack, you useless, pot smoking anthropological vagrant.
