Judicial Watch: DOD training docs suggest conservative views 'extremist' - Spokane Conservative | Examiner.com

•Under a section labeled “Extremist Ideologies” the document states, “In U.S. history, there are many examples of extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who sought to secede from the Northern states are just two examples.”
...
•“[A]ctive participation…with regard to extremist organizations is incompatible with military service and, is therefore prohibited.” [Emphasis in original]...

"The Obama administration has a nasty habit of equating basic conservative values with terrorism. And now, in a document full of claptrap, its Defense Department suggests that the Founding Fathers, and many conservative Americans, would not be welcome in today’s military,” said Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton.

“And it is striking that some the language in this new document echoes the IRS targeting language of conservative and Tea Party investigations. After reviewing this document, one can’t help but worry for the future and morale of our nation’s armed forces,” he added.

Wow, so George Washington could not enlist in todays Army, Navy or Air Force.

How charming.

Best watch progressives. I'm not making light of this.

Make ready.

The British considered them extremists

But our own Government is not supposed to be advancing the British perspective back in 1776, but, rather, our own...

You know... coming-off looking like you're siding with your OWN people, rather than the other guy's?

I haven't read the entire context, etc., but, subject to modification should I find something out-of-line about the reporting done on this one, that's my own first (and visceral) reaction...

And...

Labeling the Confederates as 'extremist' (in this narrow context) is just plain rewriting of history...

I'm not defending the Slavery aspect of that struggle, because, in all likelihood, had I been alive back then and of-age, I would most likely have enlisted in the Union Army myself...

No...

But...

I'm referring to the States Rights motivation for their Secession...

The history of the United States, in this context, can easily be divided into pre-Civil War and post-Civil War (setting aside the war-years themselves, for a moment)...

After the Civil War, with the issue decided on the battlefield, we have been all about the Federal Government superseding the States in most of the substantive topical areas of political life in this country...

But BEFORE the Civil War, and stretching back to the Revolution and even further back (considering the Colonies as mere predecessor-polities to the State-polities)...

The emphasis was on State Government more than it was Federal Government...

To an extent that we, at a distance of 148 years since the end of the Civil War, cannot fathom nor appreciate, and still do justice to the concept...

The States Rights aspect of the Secession and ensuing Civil War was a logical extension of the primacy oftentimes accorded to the States in our collective thinking, up to that time, even in the North, not just the South...

When the Federal Government appeared ready to assume (perceived) dictatorial powers over the control of slaves and other matters of economic importance to the South, the Southerners freaked-out, and preempted the Feds, by breaking away, under the cover of States Rights...

There was nothing 'extremist' about this considering of States Rights as superior to the Federal Government...

It was a natural state of affairs to most Americans, until the War permanently set aside the primacy of the States in American political thinking...

The Confederates weren't Extremists...

They were acting in accordance to the widespread respect for States' Rights which existed in this country up to that point in time...

That 'States Rights' mantra may seem rather foreign and 'extremist' to us today...

But it was a natural and logical extension of the mentality of the times which perceived the interrelation between Central and State Governments much differently than we do, or as did most of our ancestors going back a generation or two or three or four, since those bitter war years...

States Rights was soooooooo commonplace and dominant in the public eye and thinking, that the Confederates own marching songs oftentimes carried an embedded support for States Rights within their lyrics...

As may be seen and heard in one of their more famous 'signature' or 'anthem' songs...

The only 'Extremism' that applies to any of that is the Extreme Revisionism going on at the point of origin for those modern-day government publications...

As usual, this is taken out of context by dishonest conservatives who are willing to lie in an effort to promote their ignorant, hateful agenda.

As the document’s introduction notes:

All nations have an ideology, something in which they believe. When a political ideology falls outside the norms of a society, it is known as extremism.

2161 docs

In the context of the British Empire during the late 18th Century, therefore, the politics of the colonists seeking independence constituted extremism as perceived by the government in London at the time, not that the ideals of freedom expressed by the colonists should be considered ‘extremism’ today.

And the same is true with regard to the Confederacy, where the politics of secession were outside the norms of American society, as the people sought to preserve the Union.

Conservatives clearly have no shame, and conservatism is clearly a blight on America.

Extremism is subjective. The winning side gets to determine who is an extremist

Were our founding fathers extremist? Taking up arms against your country can be called extreme. So we're their political views. All men are created equal? Where did you get that crap from? The difference between a political extremist and a patriot is whether you win or not

And yes, the Rebels were extremist. Racist, totalitarian extremists at that

Blacks? You mean those blacks who were going to destroy our military strength if we integrated? Those blacks who were not fit for positions of responsibility?

I remember those blacks. Why don't you?

In case you haven't noticed, this is not the British Empire during the late 18th Century.

This is America, the nation founded on those "extremists'" principles -- principles held dearly by conservatives today.

Now, run off and denounce me to Attack Watch!!
