During Antitrust Trial Exec Admits Jacking Up Egg And Milk Prices Above Inflation

Well where is the proof? Wouldn't it be smart, if you want to increase sales, if your competitor increases their prices that you DON'T increase yours, and advertise as such?

One might think so but the greed creeps in. You understand your "bonus" is based upon raising prices.

Why would a company WANT to jack up prices when they don't have to? Do you not know when you jack up prices, you DECREASE sales? Do you have any clue how to run a business? Apparently not.

Don't ask me to explain greed. Look at Subway.........jacked up the prices of their subs and people walked away. One would think someone running Subway would have understood this wouldn't you?

All a business cares about it the next P&L statement, not long term health because bonuses aren't paid on long term survival.

The OP says Kroger said Kroger's did it. That doesn't mean others didn't also.
It's a lie, Kroger lost money

Kroger’s net earnings decline to $947m in Q1 FY24

Claims About Increased Profits by Kroger and Publix Are False

A viral post suggests that high food prices reflect corporate greed.

Kroger’s financial statements report an even steeper decline in 2023 profits. The company recorded a 3.6 percent decrease in net income 25 percent decrease in operating profits during 2023.

These are just lies and propaganda by the Demafascsit to deflect from the horrible poilices of their party the 12 of the past 16 years that have caused this. They know their dembot base is low informed and will simply repeat their lies and not actually take the time to see the facts.

GM was not a proper bankruptcy which means they will be at the taxpayers door again in the future.
likely true, just a reminder that voters should of listened to Romney and not Obama, and let them go bankrupt

Kroger's said it, not your boogeymen.

Yes, they stated their earnings, which show clearly, they have not been gouging anyone...in fact they are losing money
hahaha, the look at the links! it's clear they have been losing money

The OP says that they keep their prices above inflation? hahah ok, yeah...who hasn't? Are they suppose to go out of business?

Why do you like making yourself look stupid?

A top Kroger executive admitted under questioning from a Federal Trade Commission attorney on Tuesday that the grocery chain raised its egg and milk prices above the rate of inflation, a concession that came as no surprise to economists who have been highlighting corporate price gouging across the U.S. economy in recent years.

Groff's comment came in response to questioning about an internal email he sent to other Kroger executives in March. In that note, Groff observed that "on milk and eggs, retail inflation has been significantly higher than cost inflation."

A Kroger spokesperson told Bloomberg in a statement that the email was "cherry-picked" and "does not reflect Kroger's decadeslong business model to lower prices for customers by reducing its margins."

But Rakeen Mabud, chief economist at the Groundwork Collaborative, noted Wednesday that "execs all over the economy were saying this stuff on their earning calls back in 2021."

The pandemic played no part in supply chain issues on milk,or egg prices. These aren't imported products, and those farms were producig the same amout of milk and eggs, and the trucks delivering them were running with plenty of cheap fuel. The prices before and since are 100% corporate price gouging, the companies themselves gleefully admitted to.

That's because margins are going to increase more than net cost increases.

It's a simple formula.
If your margin is keystone of cost and costs increase 20% your margin increase is more than the dollar increase of goods.
If 10 is the original cost and retails for 20 then it's a simple increase.

10 + 2 = 12
12x2= 24
The cost went up 2 but margins were never increased just to cover costs ....they went up by 4. Where the corporate profit increases come into play is that WAGES were not increased the same as costs overall went up. Wages never went up the 20% the same as costs of goods purchased. So the COGS (cost of goods sold) had a lowering of percentage due to labor costs never increasing....causing profits to increase.

That's the game....and where Kroger and FTC can play stupid or point fingers all day long as if this is some game of "Gotcha" this is normal, everyday crap.

And if you actually understood the grocery store game....Kroger is not the largest supermarket chain. PX is. The same grocery store chain on every military base in America and abroad. So if Kroger is "guilty" then how guilty is the PX?

Corporate greed? The OP says Kroger did it, want to explain why Wal Mart did it? Costco? Brookshires?

I can tell you why they did it, because transportation costs went through the roof. Diesel went from 1.75 a gallon to 5 a gallon under Biden.

DOE's regional averages are drawn from its weekly national survey of 350 diesel service centers. The stations are surveyed on Mondays and the results are reported late that day.

That expense will be passed along to consumers as an increase in prices. Biden saying on day 1 he would shut down the oil and gas industry scared the shit out of everyone and prices shot up.

The reason we have inflation is because we have a fuck up in the white house. Let's get Trump back and get back to normalcy.
WOW............You're FOS.
Just like your dear leader.

Why do you have 2021 data? Here is the avg by year, as you can see, from 2021 moving forward, it drastically went up, reaching over $5.00 in 2022, but coming down as we get closer to the end of the Harris/Xiden admin, but still today, higher then the 2021 avg

So, why did you use 2021 data?
