Opinion: ISIS a fanatical force -- with a weakness - CNN.com

As such, it seems wise at this point for the United States not to get actively involved militarily in Iraq but to focus on containment and intelligence collection. The conflicts in Iraq and Syria are intricately linked -- to act on one and not the other would be a strategic misstep.

Iraq has always been about religious sects warring against each other. W never understood that. Now the war has reached a boiling point that we need to watch and be concerned about. Obama is doing the right thing in see where this goes. Hasty actions could come back to haunt us.

We are weary, but being too wary may not be best. I believe the President is keeping plans close to the vest, which is the only way to prevail. The campaign to obtain approval for involvement in Iraq, which turned into combat, was not in the nation's best interests.

:disagree:

Religious sects is not why we would attack ISIS. Defending our country from probable, devastating, nuclear attack is the reason. Obama's delay is costing us precious opportunity to hit ISIS while on the highway, out in the open. If we continue to delay, every day ISIS recruits more fighters, recovers more US weapons from the Iraqis, robs more banks, and gets stronger.

As for "haunt" us, how ?

We will be paying for the W's venture into Iraq for generations. The Iraq government basically threw us out. The existing government in Iraq is a Shiite thugrery that has refused to offer the Sunni a part in the new "democracy." This was not the case of a bad guy, Saddam, who ruled a country as a dictator as W perceived it. Iraq is and will always be a story of different tribes and religions.

Oddly enough, the US cookie cutter for democracy does not automatically fit every other country on the planet. Gee, W and DICK....who woulda thunk?

There's a difference between pointing out our mistakes and blaming people. You're doing a little bit of both here in blaming the Bush administration. They could not have known that their actions would lead to this eleven years ago.

Protectionist is right, we need to stop this threat in its tracks now. Jihadists are perhaps America's number one foreign threat right now, and if we do not stop them from growing larger, in the future we will have to deal with jihadists not in guerrilla cells but in conventional armies. We need to deal with this threat now, or let our children deal with it later.
