Congrats on the ignorant sweeping generalization. A republican acknowledges that there are people(including you) using Flint's terrible ordeal to wag their fingers wildly means it's all republican's fault.

I live in Michigan. The people of Flint have lived in a sh*t hole city for decades. Never mind that democrats have been running things....no. Never mind that the EPA knew about the dangerous lead in the pipes and said NOTHING. Never mind that the republican governor is doing something about this NOW

i was born in alpena Michigan... don't come here and tell us just because you live in Michigan that you know better ... you don't detroit problems was caused when you have the federal government passing legislation that allows big business to take advantage of the american worker just because a certain party didn't like unions ... so the made it easy for them hell they even gave then tax dollars to pull out ... look how the car companies operations pulled out of flint ... it was because they weren't making trillions of dollars they were only making billions of dollars ...it was because these companies felt they paid to much money to american workers and pulled out...the democrats had nothing to do with the down fall ... it was the people who passed legislation to pay them to move to other countries so don't come here and try to blow smoke up our butts because you live in Michigan

The source of the lead in question usually isn't from the feeder pipes, but the pipes inside people's houses. Most government's don't touch that piping, as it is the property owner's responsibility. At best the local government could offer a tax credit to people for replacing their pipes, but then of course Flint needs its tax income to pay for its pension costs, so this is what happens when blue model cities start running out of money, both current and future.

I just saw some studies a few weeks ago that put the source in the ground. Car exhaust settles into the dirt. Which means every major city is going to have this problem sooner or later if they don't upgrade their plumbing.

The source of the lead in question usually isn't from the feeder pipes, but the pipes inside people's houses. Most government's don't touch that piping, as it is the property owner's responsibility. At best the local government could offer a tax credit to people for replacing their pipes, but then of course Flint needs its tax income to pay for its pension costs, so this is what happens when blue model cities start running out of money, both current and future.

I just saw some studies a few weeks ago that put the source in the ground. Car exhaust settles into the dirt. Which means every major city is going to have this problem sooner or later if they don't upgrade their plumbing.

It does need to be addressed.

Local and State governments should have had this under control long ago.

At least Maryland has shown the initiative and I'm impressed with the results.

The problem is the funding for these projects has to come from somewhere.

The upkeep is expensive and locally they would have to raise taxes as the cost is more than is being taken in to pay for maintenance.

The outrage and uproar in Maryland was swift conncerning the additional tax.

It has subsided and many are satisfied with the initiative.


I understand the Fed stepping in and applaud the actions.

This is not a federal issue and having the federal government controlling State and local infrastructure is not going to resolve these problems.

I don't quite understand the mechanism you are alluding to. Most cities with legacy lead piping add phosphoric acid to the water, which creates a coating in the piping that reduces the lead leaching to safe levels.

The blame should be placed at the local level, on whatever operator was in charge of the plant (unless he asked for phosphoric and got denied) and on the Mayor for not responding to an obvious water quality issue.
