Fast Food Workers Going On Strike

$11, chumps. Same as 1968's min wage, before your greedy idiot rich GOP took over...
again asshat that $1000 dolllars in 1968 is only worth like $200 bucks today in buying power... your the dupe... welcome to your non existint savings....back then...

Everyone who went on strike should return to work and find that they have been replaced. No exceptions.

I was watching a story on it today, some were complaining that they can't afford to pay rent/general living expenses on 12.00 hr. Well! in that case, if you can't afford to live in NYC, then go elsewhere, is it true that a one bedroom apt goes for 2000.00 month? I would guess it would take 6 McDonalds employees to live in that apt. to keep their heads above water. If they can't make it on a fast food wage in NYC, then get another job! go wait or bus tables on the side. {and to think there was a time in my life when my rent for 75.00 a week came with a private beach on Longboat Key, Florida) what can u get for 75.00 a week in NYC? sharing a mouse-hole?

Yep, because its just so easy to pack up and move to another State when you have no money to support yourself.

Seems that someone is selling money trees - want to share them around?

Someone told me just yesterday that employees actually had rights over in the US. I am not seeing it.

They have rights, plenty of them. The problem is not access to rights but rather that their bargaining position is zip. You do understand that when you work in a place that has zero skill and anyone (and I do mean ANYONE) could replace you at the drop of a hat that you have little to no power in demanding higher pay. That really is the jist of it.

Further, the vast majority of McDonald workers are not only unskilled but also seriously lacking in real job skills that everyone should have. Simple things like showing up to work on time or even consistently are pretty damn rare in a fast food joint at least in the states. It might be different over there but people here get a McDonalds job usually because they don’t really want to be responsible in any form. Those that are usually move on VERY quickly or are promoted.

There is a reason that they make peanuts – that is all they are worth.

Geyhound is only like $200 bucks to the southern states, plenty of homless shelters and soup kitchens down here to get you started.

American Corporations could do better. They've attempted to go the Slave Labor route for too long. And they've been enabled by misguided people who for some reason, feel compelled to vigorously defend them at every turn. My guess is, they feel they're defending Capitalism when they do so. But i assure you, the Corporations don't need defending. They're doing well. It's the lowly worker who needs the defending.

If Businesses paid better, we would likely have less Citizens living off Government handouts. So it would benefit Taxpayers in the end. If you can't pay a worker a decent wage, you shouldn't be in business. So enough of the whining about needing Illegals to the jobs. You can't have your slaves. So it's time to get over that and move on. We should treat our fellow Americans better. We can surely do that.

Escape New York. It's a Communist Wasteland now.

It is actually easier when you have nothing but yourself. It gets harder and harder to move the more responsibilities that you incur and certainly harder when you start a family. That is something that you should not be doing though when you work at McDonalds.

I wasn't talking about raising the minimum wage.

I was talking about letting the fast food workers organize and force higher wages within their narrow sector.

Bunk;

You're talking about forcing the preditory SEUI thugs on the food industry.

Nothing stops fast food workers from organizing - nothing but reality. Very few people find that putting a sandwich together is worth $15 to them.

I have an average layman's / yoeman's grasp of action-and-reaction in a market economy, having taken a couple of macro-economics courses a thousand years ago, and claim no particular insight or expertise.

The concept is that value is independent of medium. A loaf of bread at $3.29 today goes up to $6.89 when the minimum wage doubles. The value of that loaf of bread didn't change, only the medium of exchange. The buying power of the $15 that the unskilled worker gets will quickly equalize back to the buying power that $8.25 had because the value offered by the worker doesn't change. Once the SEUI goons are involved, $5 an hour will be taken for the Mafia bosses and the purchasing power of the worker will be reduced.

What I DO see, however, is a market-sector that benefits greatly from near-slave-wages - worker-bees whose shelter and care must be subsidized on the public dole - and I'm willing to experiment with a market-segment like that, to see if such answers can bring some relief to that lot, without triggering a substantive domino-effect elsewhere.

The myth of the left is that the average head of household works at minimum wage. This is simply not true. Fast food was traditionally the domain of teens, and it was vital to teach work habits and groom those capable for management.

This dynamic has mostly been destroyed by the mass importation of illegal aliens, who take the jobs Americans wish they had a chance at.

Teens live at home with their parents and have a job to buy gas and go to movies.

If it gets 'em out of subsidized housing and off Medicaid and food stamps and all that, then, it might prove worth the risk.

More mythology.

Unionizing fast food will have zero affect on public assistance and isn't intended to. SEUI is desperately seeking new ways to fund pension plans and keep the Mafia bosses living lives of opulence.

Unions are a parasite and have killed their host - so seek a new one to suck the life blood out of.

Because things sure-as-hell aren't gonna get any better for such folk (or for the taxpaying public that has to carry their water for them) by continuing to rely upon laissez faire priniciples...

Sometimes, doing nothing is better than doing the wrong thing...

And sometimes, doing nothing is worse than doing the wrong thing or an uncertain thing...

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that we are looking at a case of the latter here (do something) rather than the former...

Intervention is oftentimes the wrong answer...

But sometimes...

Again, you don't grasp the concept of value.

Fast food is a low value proposition - thus the wages paid in fast food are low.

Which union do you belong to?

Unfortunately, Slave Labor has become all the rage in this country. We've gone backwards in that regard. American Businesses have attempted to adopt the Slave Labor formula. They have tried to implement the Slave Labor practices of Asia, South America, and Africa. It's a real shame. I consider those Businesses to be Anti-American. It's no way to treat your fellow Americans.

Da Comrade.

Putting words in my mouth now...:cuckoo: Off your meds are you? Poor thing.

I realize you are a child, 13 or 14, who read some idiocy from Noam Chomsky and imagined it to be profound.

But Noam is a Communist, if I call a turd a "rabbit," it remains a turd. If Chomsky calls Marxism "Anarcho-syndicalism" it remains Marxism.

I point out that you are delusional because you use the handle "AnCap" indicating "Anarchic-Capitalist" ala Murray Rothbard - but you have clearly never read Rothbard and have no clue what the term you adopt means. Despite declaring you are a capitalist - you impugn it in your signature, while laughingly claiming to deride the Communism you promote.

In the end, you are just another Chomskyite, hole drilled in skull, egg beaters inserted and turned on high...

You smoke a lot of dope, and your diminished mental capacity makes you imagine that Chomsky is brilliant.

I wish there was a system that would also do the fries, drinks and what ever.

Now the consumer could press into the machine what they want and put the money in. ;)

end ups coming out in front of them like a soda pop!

Shoot, over at the local Weinerschnitzel I saw the worker pour frozen fries in a basket, then push a button and walk away. The machine lowered the basket into the oil, and a few minutes later, it raised up, shook for several seconds, then dumped into the pan next to the machine. The only thing the human did was put the frozen potatoes in the basket and scoop the finished fries into a container.

{In a similar vein, Wendy's International Inc. a year ago began rolling out grills that cook a burger on both sides simultaneously, eliminating the need for flipping.

The grills are now in 2,400 of the chain's U.S. restaurants. It has 6,400 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.

The two-sided grill, which is monitored by a computer, dramatically reduces the previous cooking time of 5.5 minutes, said spokesman Bob Bertini.

Now it takes about a minute or less, he said.

The device also eliminates the need for an extra grill worker during rush hour, he said. }

ROFL

Define how a "National Anarchist" economy works? what are the mechanisms?

As a general rule National Anarchists are opposed to capitalism and communism. They seek instead a Third Way of meeting community interests and putting people before profits. Liberal democratic consumerism is the antithesis of the kind of life we wish to have. Liberal democracy, and capitalism, is hegemony over local community interests. Contrary to the hyper scarcity and abundance that characterize capitalist and socialist economies, we advocate an economy of scale that promotes self sufficiency, community needs (such as health care), and a progressive social system that puts people first. Mutualism and Syndicalism are promoted by some members.
