February is Black History Month

Barack Obama...our first black President, will go down as a top ten President

Especially being sandwiched between two of our worst Presidents.....Bush 43 and Trump

You mean first half black presidnet? You see, reality matters. Obamas blood is not American slave blood. His father was an African socialist and his mother was a white hippy socialist. But no, he has no record that would put him in the top 10 other than the politically correct advantage of having a different skin tone than the others. Leftist logic dictates that he gets a heap of Affirmative Action points when grading his record, or lack there of, as President.
Half blacks had to ride in the back of the bus too

The fact that they rose from that status without a violent revolution is worth celebrating

Don't you agree?

So as long as you're going to give General Lee the same curtesy I say celebrate all great individuals who rose above adversity in order to acheive something everyone thought was impossible.
General Lee fought to ensure that 4 million Americans remained in bondage

Really, is that WHY he fought? He said, "hey, I kinda like this slavery thing. I'll think I'll resign my US Army post and join up with the Confederacy." And I suppose the soldiers that fought under him thought the same? They said, "Hey, I don't own slaves but what the hell, seems like a worthy cause." No buddy, you cant have it both ways. Either respect the great men of history or apply a double standard that cheapens all of history toward politically correct nonsense. Lee was respected by both the north and the south but you can't see the greatness of a man because of a lense of PC skin color. Once you drop the race facade and start understanding history in context a whole new world opens up. History is not a personal experience but an amazing amount of people take it personally.

Slavery might have been the main issue that divided the North and South, but the soldiers were motivated by nationalism, imo.

Categorically wrong. He fought for his home. He fought for his country. Like all brave soldiers do.

Lee had a choice to fight for his country or fight to defend the right to enslave others

He chose wrong

He identified with his state ahead of the national government.

As has been very, very common in history.

Any coulture that is so screwed up that they need to be reminded once a year that there are some people who share the same skin color as they that did great things should rethink why they're so screwed up. Black history month should be about where blacks are at, how did they get here, and where are they going. Answering those questions honestly would result in a black cultural revolution and an irradiation of the want for a black history month. White people dont need a month because they live every day in white history month. They don't need to be reminded that people of their culture created great things in order to feel good about themselves. The evidence is all around them and everyone else for that matter.
We actually had a culture in this country that we told were no better than animals. A culture we kept in bondage. A culture we had to kill 600,000 people just to set free. A culture that for the next 100 years we treated as second class citizens, wouldn't allow them to vote, wouldn't serve them in restaurants. A culture we allowed white terrorists to kill 3000 without punishment

That culture was forced to conduct a revolution to be given equal rights. A revolution where they endured terrorism, bombing, lynching, attack dogs, beatings ....all without fighting back

That culture contributed to our music, literature, language, entertainment. They even eventually elected one of our best Presidents

I agree with nearly all of that. Now do you want some entitlement with that victimization?
You call it entitlement
I call it helping people who need help
You think people with visually discernable traces of sub-Saharan African lineage need help due to their appearance?
That's about as condescendingly racist as you can get.

Not racist...we should help everyone who needs help regardless of race

Don't you agree?

How often over the last year, have the lefties on this site ridiculed poor whites for wanting help?

THe actions of the Left make a mockery of your words.

I don't think it was as simple as that. He freed his own slaves. He fought for his state.

It was a complex war.

Lefties only see nuance when it serves their interest to see it.

You're the one who made the race distinction.

Standard lefty dishonesty.

They spent all year making fun of poor whites, and ridiculing the idea that they needed, or deserved help, or consideration.

The operative word is "need". Who defines it, you?

We the People define it

Robert E Lee was given a free pass by history

The romantic version has him agonizing over whether to fight for his beloved Virginia or for his country. Lee ultimately chooses the side of his state.
What history glosses over is the reason his state left the Union. They left because Lincoln became President and they were afraid of losing the right to own other human beings. The Confederacy offered them a chance to own slaves forever.
Lee sided with a state that chose slavery over belonging to the United States
Lee was well aware of the reasons his state left the union

February is racist Butthurt month

<sob> not FAIR......where is white people month?
Shhhhhh...... RW-er is here. Be quiet and maybe he will think nobody is here and will go away.

Nobody has a month for you

He can't hear you.

Lefties need to believe that any white person who says ANYTHING other that Mea Culpa in regards to blacks, is motivated by nothing but "RACISM", and thus can be dismissed and marginalized.

Why do you agonize so much over a celebration of black culture? Does it intimidate you that much?
How does Black History Month hurt you?

You might learn something

History doesn't gloss over that.

The reason for the war was beyond Lee's control.

He was presented with a choice of waging war against his home or in defense of it.

It is telling that the generation that "killed 600,000 Americans to end slavery" did not have the hatred and contempt for Lee that you do, generations after the fact.

Because this type of focusing on what makes us different is what we have been doing for the last 50 years.

And look around, imo, it is NOT empowering blacks, and it is tearing this nation apart.

BTW, about fucking TIME you asked why, instead of assuming and screaming "racism".

Make us different?

Things like Black History Month help bring us together to gain a better understanding of their history and culture. The only ones it tears apart are the Snowflakes who whine every year because we would actually celebrate the contributions of African Americans

Lee was well aware of the causes of the war and the reasons Virginia was seceding from the Union. It was not a noble cause. It was choosing the side of slavery over the United States.

He did not have to invade Virginia. He could have fought in the west like Grant did

That is the opposite of bringing us together.

Nothing I said, denied that Lee was unaware of the causes of the war.

By restating that, you were not addressing my post, but engaged in the Logical Fallacy of Proof by Assertion.

Your distinction between directly invading his home, and indirectly supporting the invasion of his home, is noted. It is unlikely he shared your view on that.

And?

Funny that the race contributing the least to society is the only race to get credit (for contributing nothing).
Kinda funny how this race is credited with attributing to society almost exclusively while in white countries... If they were so fucking intelligent; why isn't Sudan, or Kenya a veritable Mecca of invention and discovery?

They invented the mud hut, slavery, the spear, and using dung as a cooking tool. For some reason they missed the wheel until Europeans brought the technology but we won't hold that against them.
You left out The Cannibal Cookbook, one of history's first publications.
ATK is selling that book on their website.
It's only $12 but by the time the bastards add in a dozen other charges the book will cost you $60!!!!!
FUCK THAT!
I'll wait for the tens of thousands of masterpieces written by negroes a thousand years ago and stored in the magnificent university the negroes claim is covered in sand somewhere in the Moroccan desert.
There must be some pretty fucking good cookbooks among the other masterpieces of written literature.

America is diverse...always has been
Some cultures were accepted into America more than other cultures. Blacks had it the worse. There is still a resentment of blacks in this country and their contribution to this country was ignored for centuries

Doesn't hurt you to learn a little about other Americans
