The felon's not being allowed to vote was something new for Americans and took place with law changes after the Civil War and after blacks getting the right to vote. Southern states immediately wrote legislation to prevent those in prison with felonies from voting to DISENFRANCHISE the African American voters, who were the "most people" in jail in the South. Before this period, ALL States did NOT disenfranchise felons from their right to vote.
Maine and Vermont, who were virtually 99% white were the only two states who kept their laws the same as they were before blacks got the right to vote, because most of their prisoners, were white.
So, this tells me that it was the bigots and racists that TOOK this right to vote away from citizens, for the WRONG reasons, and anyone who supports taking away the right to vote from felons are truly the ONES IN THE WRONG.
