Ford already has 20,000 reservations for new electric F-150 Lightning pickup

Looks like a nice truck.

Our freight trains are electric.
Wrong

Trains have diesel generators
In the US. less than 1% of trains are electric powered, but in Sweden 100% of their trains are. See #141. Electric trains are the future of our freight. They have been proven to be practical for quite a while.
See post #141

Check, I am with you now.

As everyone keeps pointing out the left wants electric everything but only about 3% of of our electricity comes from solar panels or windmills

The left should embrace nuclear energy
The left wants the best and most sustainable source of energy we can get. No idea why the right doesn't want the same thing.
Total bs, we want the same thing but ain't reliable yet, liar.
Ford says at least 20,000 people disagree with you, and it's only been available for a down payment for a couple of days. I doubt Ford and so many other major car manufacturers would invest all that money if they didn't think it would work.
I dont mind American drivers buying electric vehicles as long as there are no government subsidies for the buyer involved

Oil has been subsidized for years. We even start wars over it.

Looks like there is some interest in this vehicle---When the worlds most popular truck, the F-150, goes electric--it's a sign--of course, a lot of Right wing types won't buy it..since they can't blow a bunch of obnoxious smoke...LOL!

The automaker revealed the vehicle at 9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday night during an elaborate presentation at the company's world headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. The company's shares jumped by about 3% in premarket training.
The reservations are being closely watched by the company as well as investors to gauge the interest of customers in EV pickups, which is an unproven segment that automakers are rushing to enter.
Ford is taking reservations for the vehicle on its website. A refundable $100 deposit is required.

Ford has yet to publish range numbers for a fully loaded truck towing a 5 ton trailer. I have a feeling that the towing range is going to be about half of the empty truck range or possibly even less than that

If this thing can't haul then it's no good as a truck and is nothing but a daily driver.

Manufacturers don't do that for gas vehicles either. Most people do not use a truck that way. Ford will continue to make diesels.

It doesn't matter with a gas or diesel because it only takes 5 minutes to fill the tank where it takes hours to charge the batteries.

The electric pickup is completely impractical for anyone who uses a truck for what they are designed for.

I thought all car manufacturers are supposed to be emission free in the future.

So yeah people will be forced to buy them.

I made my living in real estate and I have owned and worn out 7 or 8 pickups in the last 30 years. The last thing that mattered to me was the 0 to 60 time or even the gas mileage. What matters is can the truck move all the tools and materials needed over the distances I needed them to be moved.

There's a reason Ford isn't publishing that info.

The battery pack on that stupid truck weights almost a ton and without a load it can hardly go 200 miles on a charge so only an idiot would buy one.

Ford has no worries. All these stupid Democrats in charge of the big city shitholes, Communist states and the Federal government will buy fleets of them with taxpayer's money. It will be a terrible purchase but doing stupid purchases have never stopped Democrats has it?
Who uses a pickup truck to take the family on vacation?

Those trucks are probably going to be useless as work vehicles

With any towing or load in the bed the range will be substantially less. Throw in AC, additional passengers, heating or cold weather and you better not be going too much farther than the Home Depot down the street.

I saw a video the other day about charging stations.

It cost about $1K to have one installed in your garage. If you live in an apartment you will be dependent upon public stations.

There is no standardization on plugs between the different vehicle makes if you have to use a public station. The same with the charging stations. There are more than a dozen companies doing charging stations and they all are different.

Most charging stations take hours to charge. The quick charging stations are few and far between. You have to have a special plug for quick charging. If you are on a trip and have to use a public station you may have to sit in your vehicle for quite a long time to get a charge.

Some cities like Bolder Colorado have many of them. Other cities like Tampa Florida have very few.

Less emotion (which would be a co-dependent relationship) than disgust, noting the impoverished automatons that whine about the cup being half empty rather than half full.

Oil subsidies started when the government decided we would be better off with cars instead of horses. They were right, but the subsidies never stopped.

Like I said it doesn't matter with a gas or diesel because the range is unlimited since it only takes a few minutes to fill the tank.

If you have to stop every hundred miles or so and sit on your ass for hours while the batteries recharge that truck is completely impractical when it comes to actually using it like a truck.

Besides that it's easy to add fuel costs into your estimates and not so easy to add electricity costs

Corksuck #291 whines about charging and even mentions standardizing of plugs after we have introduced the idea of battery standardization and vending machines. That is why we like to use the term, cocksucker, because it resonates better with Chinese viruses and lithium monopolies.

When we changed from horses to cars, the government built asphalt roads and gave oil companies money to build gas stations in counties that didn't even have any cars. Without government subsidies, we wouldn't have transitioned to cars when we did. People whined because their tax money was being used for something they didn't think would ever work back then too.

I don't know why the Moon Bats are so excited about these stupid electric cars. They are as emotional about electric as they are about the AGW scam.

It is an ecological disaster to produce, distribute and dispose of Lithium Ion batteries. You don't save the planet by clean energy because the batteries don't create any clean energy, just store power generated elsewhere. Usually fossil fuels but could be nuclear. Very little wind hydro or solar. We will run out of the rare earth metals needed for the batteries before we run out of fossil fuels.

They are limited in range, cost a ton of money, have very little resale value and takes a long time to recharge. There are some people that can live with those parameters but not most vehicle owners.

Electric cars can be feasible but not with the battery technology we have nowadays. It will take a major breakthrough in battery technology to make them feasible.

You Moon Bat shitheads sure love you big government, don't you? Maybe the government will subsidize an industry to create machines to wipe your ass so you don't have to do it yourself. That would be fantastic, wouldn't it?

We are all taxed too much already. The last thing we need are assholes like the Solyndra executives getting even more of our tax money.

Whether this "works" for anyone depends entirely on how they intend to use the truck. Most truck owners in the U.S. only use the "truck" features sporadically; they are not operating a business out of the truck, just picking up the occasional load of mulch or lumber, or carrying a couple of bicycles.

Most households with an EV and most households with a truck ALSO have another vehicle that they use for other purposes. You are not likely to take a cross-country trip in a vehicle with a 250 mile range, that takes more than an hour to "fill up."

But a truck with the fuel-cost equivalence of a 100mpg vehicle...that's something that a lot of people would want.

I suspect that the $44k price will be nothing but a myth, like the $60k Corvette.
