I saw the best show on PBS last night about the Freedom Riders and how they went into Alabama Greyhound Bus Stations with 20 or 30 black and white men and women and 300 to 3000 KKK would show up and beat them, burn the bus', throw things at them, spit on them, call them N#**rs. The Governor and Police were allowing it. Kennedy's sent a guy down and even he got beat at one of these mobs. Even women in Alabama were showing up in their hoods yelling kill those N(*)#$rs. Then Alabama police escort them to Mississippi and it got even worse.

This was the majority of the residents, the police and governor of 2 red neck hillbilly states. I bet those were all good christians too.

And this was just 50 years ago. Now today we have to deal with these red necks through their representatives. Ever since the GOP used the Southern Strategy & the Moral Majority move they have the deep dirty south locked up with wedge issues like god, gays, guns & racism. And today are they any better? These are the tea baggers tea bagging our country. Ignorant. When was the civil war 1860's? That wasn't too long ago either.

By the way, this was a huge embarrassment for the USA all over the world. Ever notice whenever we are really embarrassed with the rest of the world is when a Southerner is running things? Bush a Texas man invaded Iraq.

Anyways, to black people, I am sorry for how America has treated you and how it continues to treat you. I get it. We have to remember that the KKK is still alive in the deep dirty south. AKA Red states. Backwood, inbred, red neck racist hicks. Southerners.

I wonder what percentage of whites in Alabama and Mississippi were racist in 1960 and what that percentage is today. I know we aren't perfect up here in the north but at least we don't have this history. Oh yea and these people say they live in the "bible" belt. I bet they went to lynchings on Saturday's and church on Sunday's.

It was predicted by many in the early sixties that there would be less racial strife in the South than in other areas. Lo and behold Chicago exploded with riots, California had riots.

The reason is simple. Southerners accepted black people on an individual basis but not as a whole. Others (where there had not been a high concentration of blacks to live with) accepted blacks as a whole but not as individuals.
