People just say things like that knowing it will serve to stir patriotic feelings in Americans but what does it even mean? The reality is that veterans have a lot of special problems and no one seems to give a shit. Everyone loves the stereotype of a clean-cut, hard working older man who has his shit together but the homeless guy you ignore or the liberal you despise is just as likely to have served.
