My wife just began her twenty something year of teaching, last year she said the students were the dumbest they (all the teachers) had ever seen. I'll need to ask her if there is any improvement in the recent crop. When we have such high illiteracy rates you have to wonder what people do with their time? Do they read or has the TV and Internet made for more dummies. Kids can chat and twitter and vote on American idol, but they don't seem to be able to think. Of course after watching some of the townhall meetings, the inability to think must be contagious. I hate to mention her name but when Palin is considered for VP you know our Democracy is in danger. How does a society motivate its students as the Asia Indians and Orientals seem to do. I spoke recently to a girl from Sweden who spoke better English than most Americans. She explained the course opportunities Swedish children have, and I have to say it was a fascinating contrast. Maybe the wingnuts should start embracing so called socialism.
