Fraudulent and predatory businesses should be shut down.

There is a lot of money to be made in bilking rubes. It should not be surprising the bilkers are claiming persecution.

It's true and has been going on for some time.

It started with the US government going after banks in other countries with oppressive regulatory requirements when dealing with American depositors. It was one of the reasons why there was such an increase in Americans living overseas who gave up their citizenship. Banks just refused to do business with Americans.

Since it worked so well, the same tactics became Operation Chokepoint here. The government has targeted gun shops, gun makers, payday lenders and tanning salons. That's just for starters. Using regulations, the government can put any business it wants out of business.

More businesses have closed than opened under the obama boot.

They have targeted Ponzi schemes, bogus coin dealers, debt consolidation scams, and any number of predatory assholes bilking rubes like you.

But that's not even what is happening.

OP is not honest at all.

As you say, the predatory businesses are being tightly regulated and watched VERY closely under this program. All this scrutiny makes a lot of banks nervous, so they quit doing business with them and THAT shuts them down.

NOT the government.

The defendants behind an alleged credit card interest rate reduction scam are banned from selling debt relief services and from telemarketing any goods or services.

A federal court judge in Florida approved and signed a stipulated order against Innovative Wealth Builders, Inc., (IWB) and its three Florida-based principals: Carly Janene Pelland (also known as Carly Zurita), Sheryl Leigh Lopez, and Tamara Dawn Johnson. The defendants agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that they falsely promised to substantially reduce consumers’ credit card interest rates and save them thousands of dollars on their credit card debts.

The FTC will continue to move forward with litigation against Independant Resources Network Corp. (IRN), the payment processor that allegedly assisted and facilitated the scam. In June, the FTC amended its original complaint to name IRN as a defendant in the case.

According to the FTC’s complaint, the settling defendants, IWB and its three principals, violated the FTC Act by misrepresenting credit card interest rate reduction services, misrepresenting refund policies, and billing consumers without authorization. The complaint also alleges the defendants violated the FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule by misrepresenting the debt relief services they were selling, charging a fee before providing these services, and billing consumers without their express informed consent.

If all they were doing was shutting down shady businesses, they wouldn't need Operation Chokepoint. There are plenty of existing laws to do that. The intention of Chokepoint is to close businesses that the regime just doesn't like.

LOL - except the government isn't shutting anyone down.

Exactly. All of those businesses went through the process to get business licenses and were all given approval. And since government is supposed to be on top of inspections and such, you'd think they would have found problems before the latest scheme to shut all of them down in a short amount of time.

When you look at who is being targeted, it's not surprising that it is businesses that the left is against. Hell of a coincidence that gun shops, coal plants and other things are in their crosshairs. Just the name 'Operation Chokepoint' indicates an effort regulate businesses out of existence. The regulations have changed, according to political needs, and not safety. And it's the new regulations that are targeting certain businesses. It's a simple matter of not liking certain things and changing the laws to make sure the businesses are in violation. Gun control, global warming schemes and other liberal goals weren't going well so they just changed the rules to take businesses down that got in their way.

So the government shouldn't keep an eye on businesses and make sure they are following the rules?

So I should work myself up into a frenzy because the predators have become the prey?

Nah

the right yammers about being accountable and transparency .... ok, when?

Fraudulent and predatory businesses should be shut down.

Until the program in question is used as a political weapon. The activity of the IRS has shown us that is highly possible.

This piece should worry everyone. If it is true, it is a political attack of epic portions. The regulatory force of government is frightening and something every American must be aware of.

Will they come after YOUR business next?

Read story @ Doug Ross @ Journal: OPERATION CHOKE POINT: Shutting Down Perfectly Legal Businesses for Political Reasons

And, there's this: Unions for Big Businesses: Why the NLRB is attacking America's franchises @ Unions for Big Businesses | National Review Online

I like how you started your post with a little bit of fear, then used the disclaimer "if it is true", and then quoted 2 different opinion pieces.

Fearmonger much?

Fraudulent and predatory businesses should be shut down.

Did you miss the designation legal? How do fraudulent business fall into the legal modifier used in the story? Why does the government get to decide, without a trial, that a business is predatory? What the fuck happened to due process in your universe?

Did they take them to court and prove they were violating a law, or did they just arbitrarily decide they were evil? How do legal businesses, like medical marijuana dispensaries, bilk people?

Yeah, the government sending letters to banks that tell them they will be held responsible for the legal actions of their customers has nothing to do with the banks not letting business open an account.

If you actually believe that you are dumber than the poster you quoted who thinks that the government is right about targeting businesses without actually charging them with breaking a law.

Advising folks of their legal liabilities is a bad thing?

yeah - good argument.

Which has nothing to do with the operation mentioned in the OP. Educate yourself before you end up looking like a total buffoon.
