Three staffers for former Rep. Ron Paul allegedly helped pay off a state senator in exchange for his endorsement.

WASHINGTON -- Three former staffers for the 2012 presidential campaign of then-Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) -- including one who currently heads the super PAC of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ron Paul's son -- were indicted on Wednesday. The three allegedly engaged in a conspiracy to conceal payments made to an Iowa state senator in exchange for his support of the elder Paul's campaign, according to prosecutors.

The three former staffers -- Jesse Benton, John Tate and Dimitrios Kesari -- have been charged with "conspiracy, causing false records to obstruct a contemplated investigation, causing the submission of false campaign expenditure reports to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and engaging in a scheme to make false statements to the FEC," according to the Justice Department. Benton is also charged with making a false statement to the FBI, while Kesari is charged with obstruction of justice.

The staffers allegedly negotiated with Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson (R) -- who had beensupporting the presidential campaign of then-Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) -- to switch over and back Ron Paul's campaign instead. The payments totaled $70,000, and were allegedly made in monthly installments of about $8,000 each. Federal prosecutors allege that the payments were hidden as audiovisual expenditures.

This doesn't look good for Rand Paul.

Are you saying Rand had knowledge of or participated in these alleged activities? If not you're just showing more of your hypocrite self by attempting to smear Paul by association. Something you bitched and whined about when we brought up Wright and Ayers who your dear leader directly associated himself, with full knowledge of their activities.

Deflect much? Read your last sentence again - very S-L-O-W-L-Y. What's good for the goose is also good for the gander.

I'm sorry you have a reading comprehension problem, I pointed out that the two situations were in now way similar unless you can prove Rand had knowledge of this persons activities. You dear leader sure as hell knew about Wright, Ayers, Davis and many more.

Okay, let me be the first to call this Randgate.

Randghazi?

Benton, now the head of Rand Paul's super PAC, was also at one point the campaign manager of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

D'oh!

I seriously doubt Rand Paul or his father or Mitch McConnell knew an Iowan state senator had been bribed to change his support from Bachmann to Paul.

$70,000 seems like a pretty steep price. You can get at least 200 fetal livers for that kind of money.

And how come the state senator isn't under indictment? BOGUS!!!

Ron Paul is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

Top Rand Operative Indicted In 2012 Iowa Bribery Scandal

A federal grand jury has indicted a longtime aide to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in a bribery scandal connected to his father Ron Paul's 2012 presidential bid, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

Jesse Benton was indicted on five counts including conspiracy, causing the submission of false campaign expenditure reports to the Federal Election Commission and making false statements to the FBI, according to the indictment unsealed Wednesday in federal court in Iowa. The charges stemmed from an alleged scheme to bribe a former Iowa lawmaker to switch his endorsement in the 2012 Republican presidential primary from then-Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) to Paul, then a congressman from Texas.

I remember this story from 2012!

Sure took a long time for this to wend it's way through the legal process, and the timing of this is most interesting.

The full indictment is at the link.

I also remember Aqua Buddha Rand Paul:

That really depend on their relationship with the girl and how they really 'kidnapped' her.(Did they force her, or was it horse play with the girl knowing they were not going to harm her)
