John Boehner: No Debt Ceiling Hike Without Spending Cuts

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday that the House would not vote to raise the debt ceiling without spending cuts, setting up a potential fight with President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats.

"We're not going to raise the debt ceiling without real cuts in spending. It's as simple as that," he said at a press conference.

Let's slash the defense spending some more then. Can't do that enough, imo.

How about the millions we waste on subsidizing the socialist state of Israel? Let's take the money and spend it on better schools for urban populations instead.

Well to cut defense spending you would have to get Obama to stop expanding defense spending by creating new wars.... But you already knew that.

Why cut spending? We only owe 17 trillion.

My share of that is only about $50,000 thousand...and another 50,000 to 75,000
in unfunded liabilities that the turds in Washington don't even talk about.

My kids should be good for that.

But, what about the kids in Chicago and Detroit? They won't be paying their share, will they?

So my share will triple, or quadruple, won't it?

Well, go ahead. Spend some more Obama. Kick the can down the road, right? Lets see if we can't pawn it off on our grandchildren.

What do you mean by a "spending cut"?

Is it the kind of cut where we spend less this year, than we did last year? I'm all for it.

Or is it the kind where you announce you're going to increase spending by 12% this year over what you spent last year... and then you say, "Whoops, wait a minute, we're only going to increase spending by 10%, not 12%"? And then you announce you "cut" spending by 2%?

If it's the latter, I'm not interested. No debt-ceiling hike for you.

BTW, you knew that we hit the debt limit already, didn't you? Way back in May.

And that was after "sequestration" knocked things down a little in April.

So in fact, we haven't borrowed a dime since before April 1, 2013. The budget has basically been balanced since then. Or it would have been if we had a budget.

Democrats are filling in the missing increases, by draining various Federal retirement accounts, and hoping they can refill them if/when the debt ceiling is raised and they can borrow more to cover their tracks. Those accounts will be zeroed out in another month or two. THEN watch the shiite hit the fan.

Some people just can't grasp the economic and financial implications of debt, nor unfunded liabilities. They think life and government is some game. Look at the current economy, myopic at best, production down, housing starts flat, manufacturing off, inventories up, consumer and corporate spending down, unemployment down yet food stamps at an all time high? Yep whats a little more debt? go figure.

I would love to be a house republican these days. Easiest job in America. The less you work the more your constituents approve

Compared to a democrat that sits on his ass with his hand on your wallet, spending like a drunk sailor?

Democrats don't wana cut waste in welfare nor waste on military spending... I don't see how we can move forward. Didn't they all run off cutting the spending Bush was doing, Bush, the guy that grow spending in Healthcare, welfare, education and defense... Yes they did, even Obama. So what happened? Oh I know, the Democrat voter base pussed out and didn't hold their elected officials accountable.

I can't wait until they make real cuts - slash entire departments and programs. I'm actually praying they have the balls to do it.

We should cut food stamps back to 2008 levels for a trade off of a few hundred billion in infrastructure funding for a few years.

This would give jobs and help our economy a lot.

So you want to trade off $15 to $20 billion in savings by cutting food stamps to 2008 levels while increasing spending on infrastructure by a few hundred billion. You don't see the problem here?
