Mid terms are over. There is no need for troops at the border. If the border patrol feels the need for support, the National Guard can provide it. They are better trained for this type of work than the Army.

But using the world’s most powerful military to stop some 3,000 unarmed migrants who may or may not make it to the United States border might not be the best use of taxpayer dollars at the Defense Department. These 5,000 troops that are trained and ready, will be used for something other than their intended mission. They are prohibited from combat or enforcing our immigration laws, so what can they do? The most probably duties are building tents, for themselves, transporting border officials on helicopters, cleaning up around the border and shoveling manure from Border Patrol horses. What a waste of money at a cost of $600,000 a day with at total cost of not less than 18 million!

Worth every penny if it keeps out uneducated criminals.

That's a big if since we don't know if there are criminals among the migrants. However the assumption that the migrants are criminals and a threat to the country is necessary assumption because Donald Trump needs foreigners threatening the country. Without it he has no justification for building walls around the country, both literally and figuratively. Without a threat, his upcoming re-election rallies will lack the zing he needs to fire up his base. So our troops should prepare for a long assignment at the border since there are many rallies planned.

Here’s a hard fact to swallow. Crime among illegal immigrants is statistically low. Why? Because committing a crime exposes their status. Duh.

By definition, illegal immigrants have committed a crime.

That's why they are referred to as undocumented immigrants. They are not illegal immigrants until that is determined by the court. Simply living in the country without documentation is not a crime according to the SCOTUS. Those with expired visas account for nearly half of the undocumented immigrants. Those that remain in the country more than 60 days can be found guilty of a civil misdemeanor.

Entering the US to seek asylum is not illegal as long as the procedures are followed.

Which is why US Army troops should not be there. Legally they can not enforce immigration laws, that is prevent illegal entry. They are as you say sitting ducks, and invitation for any a nut with a gun to start what would likely be a massacre of innocent people.

We have 20,000 border patrol agents trained at enforcing immigration laws. They are backed by the national guard trained at handling riots, civil unrest, and assisting local authorities. Putting combat troops on the border is not only an overkill but creates the potential for disaster.

Seem Calif is doing OK they need to burn out the under brush a long time ago, and just decided to do it all at once. The tax income is going to drop with all the home gone so the state will lose a large amount of income.

Tax income may well be effected locally but there will be little effect on state income. In California, there are approximately 10 or 12 million structures. These fires have destroyed about 12,000, most of which will be rebuilt.
