It's pathetic how both sides can't seem to leave old historic buildings alone.

Historic Damascus synagogue destroyed

(JTA) — A historic synagogue on the outskirts of Damascus was destroyed amid fighting in Syria’s civil war.

Opposition leaders said Syrian army forces flattened the more than 400-year-old Eliyahu Hanabi Synagogue in an attack over the weekend — part of a months-long bombardment of the suburb of Jobar — and also may have destroyed thousands of Jewish artifacts, The Daily Beast reported.

The synagogue had been damaged by a mortar shell in 2013. It stopped functioning as a Jewish house of worship more than a century ago.

Before Syria’s civil war, the synagogue reportedly housed thousands of religious and cultural treasures, including century-old Torah scrolls, historical texts, dishes and ancient Judaica. It was not clear how many of those were in the building when it was destroyed.

According to the Daily Beast, the synagogue was a destination for Jewish pilgrims and was said to have been built atop the cave where the Prophet Elijah hid from his persecutors. Local Arab leaders took over the synagogue building in the 19th century.

Ain't that a crying shame.......

It's ok because hundreds of mosques were destroyed too in the Syrian Civil War.
Which is good news because Mosques are a waste of space

BIBLE prophcey written over 3000 years ago about Damascus===Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city
And will become a fallen ruin. iSAIAH 17:1 AND SO IT WILL SOON BE!!!

As an historic preservationist, I consider it a crime against civilization to pull off such bullshit stunts.
I totally agree with you.

Assad is a crazed dictator and really doesn't care if he has to kill every Syrian citizen and destroy every building in the country in order to stay in power. .. :doubt:

Destruction of antiquities is vile. Only a subhuman would destroy irreplaceable objects and it doesn't matter who made them.

Ain't that a crying shame.......

As luck has it, it was just a house of sin.

More seriously, I'm far less concerned about some old, disused church than I am about people's houses and the families with no home left.
The OP doesn't give a fuck about them, just some stupid crap because it's Jewish.

History is important, more so than using it as a pretext to hate any given group of people, or justify the demands of others.
The problem here is simple enough; a small local fight has turned into a long war because of outside interference.
Blame the deaths, misery and loss of this building on everyone who supplies arms to these violent idiots.

The Syrian people have lived for decades under the brutality of the blood thirsty Assad family........first the father and now the son.

I totally support them rising up and trying to free themselves from their government's tyranny. ...

Perhaps if you gave us that list of the Jews being persecuted today in the 21st century by Christians, the viewers might think you have more creditability. It's your prerogative to dislike the Christians of toda;; however, you seem to ignore the fact that it is actually the Chyristians who are being murdered in Muslim countries nowadays. If there was an appreciable amount of Jews left in these Muslim countries, the Muslims would be persecuting the Jews as they have done in the past. Meanwhile, you don't seem to care that in Syria there have been old historic churches and monasteries which have been desecrated and/or destroyed. Say, maybe you should find some Jews originally from the Middle East and ask them how they were treated. In fact, you can speak to some Ahmadiyya Muslims who say they only feel safe in America. Maybe you are the one to tell us, since this is happening all the time, why the various sects of Islam have no problem killing each other and destroying each others mosques.

In the 15th cerntury, there was a Jewish philosopher living in Italy who said that the greatest threat to the Jews in the future would be the Muslims. One would think that since there was the Inquisition going on, he would have said the Catholics, but he felt it would be the Muslims. How prophetic he was!!!.

Naturally, Freddie here doesn't care one wit that his Muslim brethren destroy each other's mosques as well as the houses of worships of those who are none Muslims. Maybe he cheered when those very old Buddhist statues were had at by his brethren. Seriously, has anyone seen Freddie lament about the Syrian people, both Christians and Muslims, losing their homes in this civil war? What a hypocrite he is!!!
