Unless it is blacks or Muzzies being smite-ed, Hollywood usually gets it wrong. Doncha' just love all the commercials lately mostly depicting blacks? For example, the Lexus one where the black kid sits on Santas' lap and orders up a new car for his dad. (His dad was played by Van Jones)...........

You should start at the beginning. Start with the movies then the very first episode of the series.

Riggs is a veteran. That has nothing to do with his being nuts.

His wife was on the way to the hospital to give birth to their first child. He was on his way to meet her there. When he got there he found out that there was a terrible car accident. Wife and child were killed.

Otherwise, there is no point to the show. The whole premise is that Riggs doesn't care if he lives or not.
