How can we be sure Judaism's holy sites will be safe if Israel gives away the 'West Bank' commonly known as Judea and Samaria, to the Palestinians for their new State?

Well, can we be sure?

Kever Yosef the burial place of the Biblical patriarch Joseph is located in the city of Shechem in the Shomron.

It is traditionally considered to be the burial place of the Biblical patriarch Joseph. Joseph's body was taken from Egypt during the Exodus and later reinterred in Shechem in the specific spot purchased legally by Jacob.

According to tradition, Joseph's sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, are also buried at the site.

Israel first gained control of the tomb in 1967, following the Six-Day War and from the mid-1980s a the Od Yosef Chai yeshiva operated at the site.

In 1995, the city was given over to Palestinian National Authority jurisdiction, however Israeli troops continued to control the site, to ensure free access to students and pilgrims in accordance with the Oslo accords.

During the Western Wall Tunnel riots in 1996, the tomb was attacked and six Israeli soldiers were killed.

In October 2000, the shrine became a target of armed militant demonstrators.

Seventeen Palestinians and one Israeli soldier were killed in fighting around the tomb.

On October 7, 2000 the Israeli army withdrew from the site leaving it in the hands of the Arab mobs.

Soon afterward, the holy tomb and army post were ransacked (the outpost and yeshiva were destroyed in this deliberate attack on a site sacred to Jews); the Palestinian police allowed the ransacking to go ahead without intervention.

The Arabs then painted the exterior of the shrine's dome green (the color of Islam), with intention to turn the site into a mosque.

After some world outcry, the dome was repainted a neutral color but left in ruins.

You can't give something you don't have.

The West Bank is not Israel's to give.

The West Bank is land the Israeli's need to get the hell off of.

Totally right.

I mean, what's Israel's connection to Judea and Samaria, anyway?

Besides Judea being called after the Jews and that tiny fact that Jews sat there for many years and that their holy sites are there.

But Jews sitting in Judea.

Pfffft, who heard of such a thing!

Absurd!

Exactly. While Israel protects holy places of all religions, the Islamists destroy what they can. They have no respect for other religions, and for each other. That is why, among historical reasons, that not one square inch of land should be given away, ever. In fact, land should be taken back and placed in Israel's control.

They are still using it.:clap2::clap2::clap2:

Well, so far so good, although Christians are under threat in Gaza as elsewhere. In Gaza particularly Hamas want the Christian schools to be single gender, which will place tremendous strain on the Christian Gazans. But yes, so far, their church seems safe.

You cannot hold onto land, siezed in a war. Period.

We didn't let the nazis do it with Poland and we're not going to let you do it with Palestine.

Acquiring land by force has been outlawed since the end of WWII.

Deal with it!

For one who purports to have respect for 'law', Billo - you certainly are displaying a disdain for it above.

"...You cannot hold onto land, siezed in a war..."

Sure you can.

Nations do it all the time.

Right up to the present day.

"...we're not going to let you do it with Palestine..."

Whoever "we" is, can always try taking it...

seems like just last week many of you who are now wringing their hands about jewish holy sites were cheering about the possible destruction of the al aqsa mosque at the hands of jews, a place held holy by far more people in the world than the place where muhammad hitched his horse.

Mohammad never set foot in Jerusalem.

Palestine isn't mentioned in the Koran.

Israel is. In fact the Koran gives Israel to the Jews "children of Israel", for eternity.

Minor detail.

i don't think what any book says diminishes the fact that more people regard the dome of the rock as a holy site than do those who regard the bangin' wall as a holy site.

my apologies, i had no idea you held the the holy koran in such high esteem. you have every right to regard it as the word of allah but there are other considerations beyond that. i mean, there is no mention of st. peters basclica in the bible but many catholics regard it as a holy place...and we got a menorah there to prove it as well.

And of course none of that changes the fact that your 'argument from numbers' is completely irrelevant and immaterial. As for menorahs - the 'Arch of Titus' has one, too....

my argument by numbers is relevant given the context of the call by jews to destroy the al aqsa mosque., as i stated.

jewish holy site....the place where muhammad hitched his horse.

Well of course Palestinian Muslims and their supporters will "respect" Jewish and Christian holy sites by constantly lying and insinuating that the Jewish holy site is where "Mohammad hitched his horse". As they have "respected" so many other sites and shrines belonging to other faiths. They're pretty good at "respecting" people even within their own faith by blowing up a Shiite mosque here and there. Filled with worshippers praying of course.

The question should be, why aren't Muslims following the teachings of their own holy book regarding who the land of Israel belongs to? If you look at the Koran as a historical document that is. Apparently Mohammad never noticed this "ancient Palestinian people" or so called Palestinians either. You'd expect someone to have hitched his horse to know a thing or two about the inhabitants of the land. <LOL>

Hey !!! I have an idea and seeing as how Israel has already agreed to it there should be no problem with it. What say we make Jerusalem into a truely international enclave. I am sure at this point that could be included in the negotations ( sp ) that are taking pkace and I am pretty sure that the Palestinians would go along with it. A win win solution !!!

There are holy sites in other cities in the West Bank, and not in Jerusalem. These include Abraham's Tomb (85% of which is in Arab hands), Rachel's Tomb (with an ugly fortress to save it from the Arabs), Joseph's Tomb and an ancient synagogue in Jericho (both of which were destroyed by the Arabs previously).
