The entire Earth climate is dictated by how much ice is on Earth. When Earth has no ice, oceans are higher, the atmosphere is thicker and has much much more H20 = near constant rain, and it is warmer, across the board warmer. When Earth has twice the ice it does now, it is colder, the oceans are lower, the atmosphere is thinner and has less H2O in it.

How much ICE Earth has is dictated by how much land is near the Poles.

Antarctica 90% of Earth ice
Greenland 7%
Ellesmere Island 0.3%

The Antarctic Circle cools Earth more than the Arctic. Air that passes over Antarctic cools 50F more than when it passes over the Arctic. AA dumps 9 times the ice into the oceans and that ice is way colder than Arctic's...
