Drive along hwy 5 south from the Bay Area and you'll see farms on the east side, the Central Valley. For decades these farms were watered with sprinklers during the heat of the summer - usually in the mid 90's.

Drip systems are now being used by many of the farms, but my last trip down south in April of this year I saw sprinklers casting water many yards in half circles when the temperature was in the low 80's.

Development has created many problems, and this is and continues to be a systemic problem created by Pols and Private businesses. While no fan of Communist California, I do have to keep in mind that the "entire" US electrical grid system is older than dirt and needs a massive upgrade and add to this, scientists have said many years ago that California was a region that was in the process of gradually turning into a desert (think North Africa and the Sahara where the desert goes right up to the ocean, although becoming a sea of sand dunes is a long way off). The only possible solution is to bury all cables and power lines and put them underground, a massively expensive undertaking across the US.
