Why not? It obviously wouldn't preclude him from potentially being President again. He should claim that he isn't mentally capable of standing trial for any of the accusations against him, but being President shouldn't be an issue. That precedent has already been set by Biden.

The judge has an obligation to run the court according to the law, but she also has an obligation to assure the defendant doesn't get railroaded by the prosecution.
