Part of the problem the Democrats face (along with their weak field and the fact that illiberal leftist authoritarians have largely taken over the party) is that Trumpsters are going to follow their leader damn near no matter what he does, and he knows where his boundaries are.

He's to the Left of Keynes on fiscal policies, and the Trumpsters obediently follow right along. He's anti-war, and the same people who backed Bush in Iraq and Afghanistan are now strident doves. They turned on a dime when they sold their soul to this guy. They had to.

This party operates at the day-to-day whims of Trump, so there's no easy target for the Dems to zero in on.
