If I lived in Ca I would be pissed

With a stroke of his pen, California Governor Gavin Newsom has redirected part of the money you pay at the pump with the state’s gas tax to the railway system and other projects.
Assemblyman Patterson says, “One of the very first things Governor Newsom decides to do, is put forward an executive order and his people at Caltrans have decided they are going to terminate addition north and south freeway lanes on Highway 99 in Tulare and Madera County. I’m almost speechless with response to this.”
Assemblyman Patterson says, “When you pay for gas and you pay a gas tax, a railroad is not a highway. This is bait and switch. This is saying one thing and doing something else. I just think all who represent California both Democrats and Republicans have better step up and stand up and say Mr. Governor you can’t do this.”

It really is the ol' bait and switch....and the Ca. taxpayer once again is getting screwed.

The face of socialism...
That's communism, not socialism.

Democrats want to lower the standard of living for Americans.

They be like, californians love their cars... we'll have to break them of that...

They'd surely think differently, if they had real jobs, like mine, where one may have to commute up to eighty miles between home and a construction site, carrying more than a hundred pounds of tools.
you cant take a bus?.....

Been to LA many times

Their highway system is overburdened and air pollution has always been a problem. For one of our largest cities, their mass transit is almost nonexistent. Using gas tax to improve mass transit is a wise choice
RW, lived in that area for over 40 years.....they like their cars, mass transit has been a bust every time.
The major arteries are gridlocked at all hours. I remember trying to drive to LAX at 4:30 in the morning and still hitting traffic.
Bottom line is that Californians are not going to switch over to mass transit, it been tried and it's failed. They like their vehicles.

Californians live in SF and they take BART, even the Cable Cars

If the transit system is well planned out and accessible, it will be used
Mass transit has worked better in older cities where it started before the car became a thing. But let's remember that the latest gas tax was voted on by the people of CA.

Same difference… Although I would say socialism actually is probably worse than communism. It expects its citizens to be sheep like. And the sheep oblige... lol
At least with communism they force their citizens to be cheap like whether they want to or not...

They'd surely think differently, if they had real jobs, like mine, where one may have to commute up to eighty miles between home and a construction site, carrying more than a hundred pounds of tools.

Most of those who commute by public transit work in offices and the only tools they carry are a cell phone and maybe a lap top.

Commuters to SF & Santa Clara Co. come from all of the nine Bay Area Counties and surrounding counties which do not touch the bays. Heavy rail, light rail and Bart along with buses and ferry boats prevent someone like you from greater gridlock.

I fly from Carson City to Buchanan Field in Concord, then take BART into the city. Most of the time it's fine, but those times when there is a problem. It's a PROBLEM. There are few bail out points and I was stuck on a train for three hours once.

The Paris Metro is the best in the world. From any point in Paris to any other point in 35 minutes.

BART covers one third the distance and takes three times as long.

Next time drive, the Maze and the bay bridge can be problematic too. BART is usually on time, I can recall a three hour delay (which is not mitigated by buses) and prior notice. That long I suspect BART would move the train to the nearest available station and have buses to bridge whatever problem existed.

I usually fly down because I can gain time overall by taking BART. I also don't need to find a parking spot which is usually miserable.

When BART works it is okay, but when it doesn't it's terrible.

When I do drive to the bay area I time it so I don't have to deal with commute time.

By "the people of California " you mean the globalist that run vote harvesting operations because that has been made legal here by Democrats.

I too experienced the traffic in an around LAX. Simply getting to the rental car was tedious, and then driving wasn't any better.

BART goes directly into SFO, and has an elevated train into OAK; See what has been completed and planned for Silicon Valley and San Jose in this link:
Silicon Valley BART extension - Wikipedia

Light rail in Santa Clara and San Francisco; heavy rail in SF, Alameda and Contra Costa, connect with BART; and Ferry terminals connect with Marin/Sonoma light rail as well as Solano County and connect with BART.

Without public transportation, Grid Lock would be an at best an understatement. Consider too, that speed and reckless drivers kill and even car crashes without injury create long term delays. Many fewer deaths and injuries occur on public transportation.

Let's also remember that, as usual, the politicians misled voters in that gas tax hike.

BART has never made money. It never will.If it were as popular as you claim, BART would be raking in the dough.

It doesn't.

Public services are not for profit businesses. That said, during commute hours which in the Bay Area start at 5 A.M and continue until at least 10 A.M. (unless some idiot on a motorcycle gets killed); and from 3 P.M. until at least 8 P.M. unless some drunk or lane switching speeder kills themselves or someone else.

When the Giants, A's, Sharks or Warriors play commute hours stretch into the late evenings, on weekends when major events occur in The City (SF) BART is jammed since parking in The City is nearly impossible, unless someone want to pay big bucks, even then the parking garages are usually full unless one drives in at 5 A.M.

Maybe not, but they shouldn't be running at enormous deficits either. If they can't make it then clearly there isn't the need or desire.

Far better would be to issue LYFT credit cards. Employs people, no massive overhead, no long term pensions sucking the life from the taxpayer. Etc. etc

I happen to agree with the decision. Yes I drive and make plenty of cash to buy fuel and the tax money is going to transportation. Glad you don't live here.

Lyft and Uber drivers are being exploited, and even so the business plan for LYFT has lost money:

See: How Lyft disguises its losses

As for employment BART and other transit agencies employ drivers, mechanics, police, custodians, electricians, station agents, bookkeepers and accountants, managers and supervisors.
