If I lived in Ca I would be pissed

With a stroke of his pen, California Governor Gavin Newsom has redirected part of the money you pay at the pump with the state’s gas tax to the railway system and other projects.
Assemblyman Patterson says, “One of the very first things Governor Newsom decides to do, is put forward an executive order and his people at Caltrans have decided they are going to terminate addition north and south freeway lanes on Highway 99 in Tulare and Madera County. I’m almost speechless with response to this.”
Assemblyman Patterson says, “When you pay for gas and you pay a gas tax, a railroad is not a highway. This is bait and switch. This is saying one thing and doing something else. I just think all who represent California both Democrats and Republicans have better step up and stand up and say Mr. Governor you can’t do this.”
CBS47 Investigation: Gov. Newsom redirects gas tax money. It won’t fund highways, railway system

It really is the ol' bait and switch....and the Ca. taxpayer once again is getting screwed.

I happen to agree with the decision. Yes I drive and make plenty of cash to buy fuel and the tax money is going to transportation. Glad you don't live here.

It's sure great you make so much money. It's a shame the decision harms the middle class and the poor.

But we already know that you don't care about them.

Bottom line is that Californians are not going to switch over to mass transit, it been tried and it's failed. They like their vehicles.

Californians live in SF and they take BART, even the Cable Cars

If the transit system is well planned out and accessible, it will be used

BART has never made money. It never will.If it were as popular as you claim, BART would be raking in the dough.

It doesn't.

Public services are not for profit businesses. That said, during commute hours which in the Bay Area start at 5 A.M and continue until at least 10 A.M. (unless some idiot on a motorcycle gets killed); and from 3 P.M. until at least 8 P.M. unless some drunk or lane switching speeder kills themselves or someone else.

When the Giants, A's, Sharks or Warriors play commute hours stretch into the late evenings, on weekends when major events occur in The City (SF) BART is jammed since parking in The City is nearly impossible, unless someone want to pay big bucks, even then the parking garages are usually full unless one drives in at 5 A.M.

Maybe not, but they shouldn't be running at enormous deficits either. If they can't make it then clearly there isn't the need or desire.

Far better would be to issue LYFT credit cards. Employs people, no massive overhead, no long term pensions sucking the life from the taxpayer. Etc. etc

Lyft and Uber drivers are being exploited, and even so the business plan for LYFT has lost money:

See: How Lyft disguises its losses

As for employment BART and other transit agencies employ drivers, mechanics, police, custodians, electricians, station agents, bookkeepers and accountants, managers and supervisors.

Yes, their businesses are losing money so far. Eventually they will either get it right or they will fail.

One thing that won't happen is the taxpayers won't have to foot the bill.

So am I. People with skills are leaving that state. I left a long time ago and have lived a very happy, stress free life since then.

That's absurd, dishonest and ludicrous.

People with the money or retirement are leaving California like German Jews in the 1930s.

Been to LA many times

Their highway system is overburdened and air pollution has always been a problem. For one of our largest cities, their mass transit is almost nonexistent. Using gas tax to improve mass transit is a wise choice
I agree we need more mass transit....Californians love their cars, they need to get out of their comfort zone a bit. I bike, scooter and I hardly use mu car.
it might be to late for S.Cal,there are to many people and many more on the way....
Tell this who has been posting here about how millions are fleeing the state. All I see is more and more people moving in.

And factual. Those who can leave are doing so. Why do you Cali is in such terrible fiscal condition?

The producers are leaving, and the takers are flooding in.

It's like a ponzi scheme. Doomed for failure.

It's sure great you make so much money. It's a shame the decision harms the middle class and the poor.

But we already know that you don't care about them.
Well in California if you work you make plenty of cash. As for the poor public transit is a help not a harm investment. Middle class here is me.

Cali is seeing its slowest population growth in recorded history. Last year 177,000 moved in, but 160,000 moved out.

Most of those moving in are low skill workers. The trades are starved for talent.

Really? Why does Cali have the highest poverty rates in the country?

There is a wealthy ruling class, and a huge population of poor, but the middle class is being crushed.

Quit trying to romanticize it, it can never be done because of lazy fucks like you, who's only goal is after other people's money and everyone as miserable as you.
