If RBG is gone, how about a deal: Merrick Garland for the wall and immigration reform?

Which option would Nancy and Chuck pick to replace RBG?

  • Amy Coney Barrett, Notre Dame professor

  • Merrick Garland, with immigration reform and $25b border security, including wall funding

Sorry Republicans

Nobody put you on a clock and you don’t get to set rules for when Dems are calling the shots

Garland rule is you don’t have to fill a seat for the opposition party

Nope. That would be a new "rule" for anything other than an election year vacancy due to a sudden death.

Sorry Republicans .......the “rule” was a sitting President gets to fill court vacancies

That rule no longer applies

Nice try, but extending out past an election year would be a new "rule"

It takes three months or less to fill a vacancy. Republicans waited a year to fill the seat

Under the Garland Rule, a seat can now be left vacant until the party holding the Senate feels like filling it
Its not believing you anymore that you don't get. The Repubs keep playing by at least some rules while knowing that when the Progressive Socialists regain power they will change every rule to their advantage.
It seems to be the Republicans changing the rules.

Now they will have to live by them

Nope. It's amazing the games Dems play to try to make themselves look like political purists, when they play the same games their opposition does.

Try owning it, you mealy-mouthed cuck.

Show where Dems have refused to allow a President to fill a Supreme Court vacancy

This is a new low for a partisan power grab

It sets a precedent Republicans will have to deal with

Bork.
Bork was voted down by a wide margin. That is the way Senate confirmation is supposed to work

Garland was denied even before he was nominated

Live by the Political sword, die by the political sword.

Too bad, so sad.

Looking for a very big comprehensive deal.
How about this, if RBG is done trump has two options:

1. Amy Coney Barrett, Notre Dame professor
2. Merrick Garland, AND immigration reform, including:

1. No catch & release
2. No diversity lottery
3. No asylum claims unless pre-approved
4. No chain migration
5. Only merit based immigration for who the US needs
6. No birthright citizenship, i.e. no cottage industry for anchor babies
7. DACA kids get green cards but NOT citizenship
8. $25b for the wall and border security,

What do you think Nancy and Chuck would do? Barrett or Garland and border security?
I've thought about the asylum claims thing. The way the law reads now, asylum seekers have to physically show up to request it. I thought about them sitting home and requesting it by mail, I guess, through the local embassy if there is one. How long would that process take? Since asylum seekers are at risk of their lives, wouldn't most of them be dead by the time the US decided whether they were approved? The other thing is, if I were an immigration official, I would never approve an asylum seeker without a face to face interview. A long one.
So I don't think pre-approved asylum claims would be reasonable.

Garland is an left wing extremist and a general shit stain...

If Repubs played by Harry Reid and Daschle and others they would have done a lot more by now. You don't like Trump. Okay. But we had a few year window of the closest we were going to get to Camelot. The only thing you should question is his judges.

Building a wall around these following things in order to keep brown people out of it is more important than building a wall on the southern border to keep brown people out of it:

Civil rights
Voting rights
Women's rights
Labor Rights, etc etc etc...

It is far more satisfying to build a wall around these things than it is to build a wall on the southern border...as long as it keeps out the same kind of people....
