If you don't allow gay marriage in one business, you can't conduct other business.

In accordance with the principles of leftist hysteria, no one ever actually discriminated. The denial of permit and license is based on an anonymous facebook inquiry.

This is much like the outrage over Memories pizza. A roving reporter asked the waitress if the pizza place would host a same sex reception. There was never a same sex couple.
It turned out very well for Memories. I hope it turns out just as well for these farmers.

The way to deal with these crazies is just lie. If a same sex couple shows up, deal with it, over priced, nasty attitude. Anything. But when asked, lie.

So a guy owns a farm, and sells his produce at a farmers market......he doesn't rent his farm out to gay weddings....not the left wing fascists won't allow him to cell his produce at the farmers market....which is, of course, unrelated to his farm.......

left wing fascism has got to end..........

You Can't Sell Blueberries Unless You Affirm Gay Marriage
It will be interesting to see if he can successfully sue a city to force them to let him sell in their city market even tho he doesn't follow that city's anti-discrimination ordnance.

His farm isn't in the city twit...........this is nuts....his farm selling blue berries has nothing to do with renting his farm for gay weddings....they aren't connected....this is the worst sort of insanity....
It is connected if he wants to sell in the city market, isn't it? No one's making him do so, are they? I guess this is just another example of a christer business owner whining because they don't want to follow the business rules of the place they are wanting to do business in.

No....his selling produce has absolutely no connection to gay marriage........if this is allowed, you could essentially deny any service to any catholic because of their religious beliefs......

I too see the leasing of the farm for weddings and selling produce as two separate things. Went out and saw another article from a Lansing newspaper that said Tennes would honor prior booked weddings but would no longer accept new bookings which seems like a reasonable way to settle things.

One question I didn't see asked or answered in either article is whether this good Catholic's farm hosted past weddings in which the bride and/or groom was divorced?

That doesn't matter. You can't dictate how he practices his religion.

You Can't Sell Blueberries Unless You Affirm Gay Marriage

And for the past seven years, Steve Tennes and his family have sold their produce at the farmer’s market owned by the city of East Lansing.

But this year – city officials told the devout Catholic family that their blueberries and sweet corn were not welcome at the farmer’s market – and neither were they.

Last year, someone posted a message on Country Mill’s Facebook page inquiring about whether they hosted same-sex weddings at the farm.

Tennes told the individual they did not permit same-sex marriages on the farm because of the family’s Catholic belief that marriage is a sacramental union between one man and one woman.

City officials later discovered the Facebook posting and began immediate action to remove Country Mill from the Farmer’s Market – alleging the family had violated the city’s discrimination ordinance.

"It was brought to our attention that The Country Mill's general business practices do not comply with East Lansing's Civil Rights ordinances and public policy against discrimination as set forth in Chapter 22 of the City Code and outlined in the 2017 Market Vendor Guidelines, as such, The Country Mill's presence as a vendor his prohibited by the City's Farmer's Market Vendor Guidelines," read a letter the city sent to the family.

It also did not seem to matter to city leaders that the farm is located 22 miles outside the city limits – and had absolutely nothing to do with the business of selling blueberries at the farmer’s market.
It isn't about being FAIR, but the constant attack from the bullies of the left to get the immoral actions of liberalism FORCED up normal citizens. As long as there is resistance against the immorality, then there is a beacon of light that normal people would be attracted to. But when you take all beacons away, then there is only despair, and that is when liberalism wins. And everyone loses...

So now being gay is a political philosophy..What a twist!
Homosexuality: The Mental Illness That Went Away | Behaviorism and Mental Health
There was little or no suggestion within the psychiatric community that homosexuality might be conceptualized as anything other than a mental illness that needed to be treated. And, of course, homosexuality was listed as a mental illness in DSM-II.
Then in 1970 gay activists protested against the APA convention in San Francisco. These scenes were repeated in 1971, and as people came out of the “closet” and felt empowered politically and socially, the APA directorate became increasingly uncomfortable with their stance.
Homosexual politicians and Hollywood elites pushed for immorality to become normal, otherwise the guberment would come down on these doctors. It always is with FASCISTS/MARXISTS/COMMUNISTS/PROGRESSIVES/LIBERALS to use FORCE to break the will of the people. It is just the liberal nature to be "BULLIES".

Was the bride and groom's prior marriage in the Catholic Church? If not, there was no prior marriage.

And it doesn't matter anyway...how you interpret your religion is your own business.....the government doesn't get to come in and judge wether or not you are practicising your religion in the government approved way....

He hasn't refused to sell to anyone at the market and the city has no justification over his farm.

This isn't rocket science

For the left 2 + 2 is rocket science...as is basic male/female biology.....and economics......and history....

Here are a few possibilities you don't seem to have considered.

1) Whether it is set up as a corporation, DBA, or some other entity, the wedding hosting business and the agriculture business are just different aspects of the same business. They are connected in every way.
2) The farmer's market set their rules based on the business practices of the people or groups selling at the market. It doesn't matter if they are in town, 22 miles out of town, or in another country. The city has every right to set the rules based on any legal criteria they want, and they don't want to do business with entities that discriminate.
3) I'm not sure, but if the business could be split into 2 separate unrelated businesses, where tax advantages for one weren't shared by the other, they might have something to complain about,

No...they aren't and this is insane.....it isn't surprising that the cry for compassion for gays from the left turned into the jack boots of government compliance......

No they don't, but it doesn't cover every aspect of social interaction. Religious doctrine is not absolute compared to the laws of social compacts..

Yet the Log Cabin republicans , the homosexual representation in the GOP is not leftist, they are more centrist.

You are required to deny Christianity, Islamic and Judaism faiths in order to sell blueberries now.

Just a few years ago both Obama and Hillary were proclaiming marriage is strictly between a man and a woman.

This case is blatant discrimination of the farmer. I bet he's notified a lawyer.. Hopefully it's one that is not afeared to go after the city and not part of the good ol' boys club.

Nope. Not required to deny anything. You just can't discriminate. Glad to be able to clear that up for you.

The man posted on facebook. He discriminated against no one.

He has taken legal action. I hope he rips the city for all it is worth.

I am surprised the mayor has not taken council...

So posting on Facebook is a get out of jail free card for discrimination? He wasn't denied because of posting on facebook. He was denied because of discrimination. His Facebook post was just a public announcement of his discrimination. If he announced on Facebook that he had robbed a bank, that wouldn't make robbing the bank OK.

The left have no self awareness, they see nothing wrong with banning Christians, Muslims and Jews from working.
