Offering free things or all you can eat is just an advertising
gimmick to get the word out. People will look twice, even if they
don't "give a flip about pancakes" just to see what they could get for free or on sale.

Have you ever seen all those Bed Bath and Beyond coupons?
Even if people don't use the coupons, if they stash them and "save them"
in their kitchens, that's like a business card that is advertising their name.

If you study advertising and marketing, it's all about getting people
to pay attention first of all, then luring them to the site to "change their
consumer patterns" to KNOW where their locations are so that becomes a choice.

Do you know what "loss leaders" are?
Like the free pencils that you can get for coming into a store,
just so you'll browse and maybe buy something else.

Anything that interests the customer or can get them in the DOOR
is a way to drive future business and develop consumer patterns to
make that establishment a choice or a habit to go to.

You have to offer an INCENTIVE to people to change how
they do things and "try something new".
Once they get you in the door, they can sell you other things.

2. you know the name of the company
rather than drive to a new location for no reason at all
when there are already ones that you are used to going to.

So if someone was to offer a new location or name,
if they lower the price or offer free hot dogs to new customers,
that could be used to change the consumer pattern and get
new customers to drive out to their location and check them out.
