Every president faces a challenge. They are judged by how well they handle that challenge. And Trump handled COVID by ignoring it for as long as he could. Telling people not to worry (or to prepare for that matter) because it was going to go away all on it's own when the weather got warmer.

Trump was like the driver, when the "low gas" warning light comes on. Instead of looking for a place to refuel, he acted like the light meant he still had 50 miles of gas in the tank.
