Yes, coloured in South Africa is an umbrella term for multiracial people...

In South Africa you'd call the mixed race child "Coloured" but that's an offensive term in the US. There they work by the racist "1 drop rule". 1 drop of Black blood (for them) makes you black.
Obama would have been the Coloured president in South Africa.

One could write a fairly lengthy pamphlet on the semantics of race.

I vote for a world in which identifying someone by their racial makeup would be illegal, either formally or informally. No box on any form could reference race or ethnicity. To involuntarily separate people by race, for any purpose, would be a crime. Any overt attempt to insert your race or ethnicity on any application would be cause to have that application summarily discarded.

When you ban a word, another word just takes its place.
You're on a fool's errand if you think you can stop people from seeing differences by banning the words that describe said differences.

The obsession over race which is a political game never ends until people stop focusing on it and realize we are all Human Beings thus deserving acceptance as we really are.

Finally. A voice of reason. Thank you.

I'm sick of people who Assume they have the right to determine the words other people may, or may not, use.

The English language the most versatile and elastic language in the world. And it is always changing. New words are added, and new meanings are given older words. Remember when the word "f-ag" referred to a cigarette? Now days some ignorant assholes have decided the word should be banned.

How about the word "niggardly?" Are we not to use this word because thin-skinned imbeciles are offended by everything they don't understand? Fuck them. That word has been in use since about the 14th century.

If you don't like a word, don't use it. But don't think you have the right to tell others how they can use our language. Get a fucking grip.

The idea of criminalizing the use of language is beyond ridiculous.

I hope you never have power over anyone, or anything.
