John Dingell was a corrupt lackey of the auto industry. He held more than a million dollars in GM stock options. and he advocated that the government bail out big wasteful auto manufacturers in his Detroit fiefdom, a family heirloom which greatly benefited his stock holdings.
That's pure money grubbing corruption.

He doesn't get a lifetime pass because he was in the military at one point. Quit hiding behind the flag when your heroes wind up to be corrupt bums and thieves. Lots of people served the country in the military, like me for instance.
