IRS to pay $70M in employee bonuses

Federal Workers are barred by law from striking. Reagan demonstrated that fact. So Federal Workers collectively bargaining does not affect the governments ability to work.

Uhhh, did the teachers strike in wisconsin? did the transport workers stike in NYC?

Those aren't federal.

wow! thanks for pointing that out. they are civil servants and members of government employee unions.

do you think barry would have the guts to do what Reagan did with the air traffic controllers?

We agree, corporations and unions should not fund political campaigns. Now, same question for you. Who in congress will draft a bill to make that happen?

McCain/Feingold tried.

and we know how far that got.

It got pretty far.

Additionally there has been legislation for the last century or so that has put limits on corporate/union contributions.

Citizen's United did a stunning reversal of all of that.

It was an amazingly broad and dangerous example of judicial activism. And legislating from the bench.

One thing the President doesn't lack is "guts".

The Osama Bin Laden liquidation should have been a good indication of that.

Sending US Marines to kill the world's most wanted man takes 'guts'?

:cuckoo:

What happened with that?

An agreement was fulfilled.

Hypocrite much?

There is one significant difference that you ignore

Those Wall Street/AIG executives made the decisions which lead to the collapse of their companies

Those IRS execs made decisions which would have lead to the collapse of their organization if its monopolistic existence wasn't mandated by law.

So what?

You're a fucking hypocrite and we ALL know it.

Yeah..actually it does.

Aside from the fact it will solidify you as a target for Al Qaeda, for the rest of the time they exist, in reprisal - It was a HUGE risk. As the operation that Jimmy Carter approved showed, this sort of thing, when it fails, almost assures that failure will be attached, and rightly so, to the Commander in Chief.

It's surprising you don't know this stuff.

Well no.

It is public funds.

Funny you don't know that.

Where do you think TARP and QE comes from?

Space?

prove the funds from these three anonymous CEO's came from TARP or QE.

Oh gosh..did you really post that?

Additionally..government funds go into the private hands by way of 401K accounts.

Bet you didn't know that either.

:doubt:

"...government funds go into the private hands by way of 401K accounts."

Really? How does that work?

not sure if "guts" is the right adjective. More like he had no choice when the intel (gathered under Bush BTW) gave away OBL's location.

If he did not give the OK on the raid and it came out that we had him located, then Barry would look pretty bad. He had no choice but to authorize the hit.

Government employees get 401k accounts.

That's part of the reason, by the way, for TARP. In addition to the fact that AIG provides a great deal of insurance coverage for the government.

I'm not even sure it is an adjective.

Got to keep those public sector unions happy I guess:cuckoo:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service is about to pay $70 million in employee bonuses despite an Obama administration directive to cancel discretionary bonuses because of automatic spending cuts enacted this year, according to a GOP senator.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa says his office has learned that the IRS is executing an agreement with the employees' union on Wednesday to pay the bonuses. Grassley says the bonuses should be canceled under an April directive from the White House budget office.

The directive was written by Danny Werfel, a former budget official who has since been appointed acting IRS commissioner.

"The IRS always claims to be short on resources," Grassley said. "But it appears to have $70 million for union bonuses. And it appears to be making an extra effort to give the bonuses despite opportunities to renegotiate with the union and federal instruction to cease discretionary bonuses during sequestration."

The IRS said it is negotiating with the union over the matter but did not dispute Grassley's claim that the bonuses are imminent.

Office of Management and Budget "guidance directs that agencies should not pay discretionary monetary awards at this time, unless legally required," IRS spokeswoman Michelle Eldridge said in a statement. "IRS is under a legal obligation to comply with its collective bargaining agreement, which specifies the terms by which awards are paid to bargaining-unit employees."

An employer is making good on an obligation to its employee.

Stop the presses.

1. Well no. First off the part of the intel "gathered" under Bush was the code name of a courier. They also allowed the trail to get cold. Obama activated the CIA hunter team looking for Bin Laden, which was another huge risk.

2. If there was no "OK" done..there would have been no ramifications.

If Bush had the Intel........why didn't he show the guts and take out bin Laden himself?

Obama had four choices

1. Wait for definite confirmation it was bin Laden
2. Follow international law and have Pakistan arrest him
3. Tactical drone strike on the compound
4. Send in the SEALS

He chose the most risky and it took guts

I thought the sequester was going to ruin everyone economically.

Obviously not for unions. They're doing just fine and dandy.

Unions are the weakest they have been in 70 years
