Is Congress working for the American People?

Are you one of the 13%?

Congress Approval Stagnant at Low Level

And for all their efforts to discredit the President of the United States, Obama hold a 50% approval rating.

Even those of you who consider yourself to be a conservative must have some doubts about the competence and agenda of McConnell and Boehner.

The agenda of republicans is to make sure Obama fails. If it hurts the country, so what? The senate majority leader admitted to this agenda. This doesn't faze some republicans on this forum who have made it an almost full time job to seek out bad info on Obama and post it, almost like they're getting paid for doing this.

It's really sad and pathetic that this Congress seems to only want to stop any sort of progress in this country and they are willing to damage the country's economy rather than do anything at all that might appear to be helping the President. There is no compromise, no reason, no logic behind what they do. Nothing but hyper partisan games that we pay them for. It's shameful. Congress sucks.

Maybe its because they think that the programs of the democratic party are what actually would damage the country?

Its as if you expect your political opponents to meekly accept your policies. Want to pass your crap? Control both houses. Until then enjoy the deadlock.

Oh bull loony. Everything, even some things the GOP once supported, are attacked by the GOP and the far right 'conservative' fringe when proposed by the Obama Administration.

Your post was so disingenuous I'm almost compelled to attack you and not your argument.

Of course the facts - events of the past four and one half years - are not in your corner. You've embarrassed yourself this time.

What your side is asking for is the real "bull loony" (is that even a phrase???). This is a TWO party system, and yes the two parties disagree on things. For some reason you expect the GOP, when it controls a house of congress (and prevents a supermajority in the other) to just meekly roll on its back when asked by the democrats to pass something.

When people start using generalizations like "is congress working for the american people" they are going for soundbites, and gotcha quotes, not any real substantive legislation.

Tell me, what legislation is causing this issue? Or does all you side have is generalizations?

Actually, that's not how it's supposed to work. They are supposed to compromise. Especially on issues where the American people support the idea. Right now they are doing nothing. That's why their approval rating is in the toilet.

Some issues you do not compromise on.

That's fine. You can oppose some things. BUT not everything!!

Is Congress working for the American People?

Only as much as it takes to get themselves re-elected. Republican or Democrat, their biggest priorities are getting elected, getting power, and getting money. After that, their priorities consist of keeping the aforementioned...

No, Congress only represents party interests and those who buy party interests.

Oh, Im sure we agree on some harmless stuff like post office naming, or recognizing some scout troop for whatever it did.

You both make a really good point that is worth mentioning. 99% of the politicians in Congress only care about their own power and whoever has the most money and influence and they are so far removed from the average person, they don't have a clue. It's all about games and power trips.

I just think the GOP is even more heinous than usual this time around for being willing to let the economy sink and to hurt the country just to obstruct Obama, even if it is something the American people support and something they themselves as a party have supported in the past.

The post-Reagan group of leaders in the GOP include many, many evil and dishonest personalities. Mitch McConnell is a great illustration of the problem, that he would rather hurt the country if he could make BHO a one-term president. We need leaders of implacable standards, and we don't have them yet.

Bull loony is my way to suggest the bullshit you posted was something only a lunatic would support.

We have had a two party system since the days of Jefferson and Hamilton. Most times the two parties have worked together in doing the work for the people. That all changed with the tactics of Newt Gingrich. The GOP not only moved far far right it has forgotten that compromise is necessary for a democracy to succeed.

The only agenda the GOP has is to gain power by any means, if that means voter suppression, so be it. If that means patronizing the Latino voters, so be it. The GOP will nominate a Latino, likely a women Latino, as VP in the summer of 2016. Not because they want to, not because they respect women or Latinos, but because they want power and the perks which come with it.

So you are saying Newt Gincrich invented partisan politics? Are you out of your mind? What about all the blocking republicans did during Roosevelt and the new deal? What about all the blocking democrats attempted during reconstruction after the civil war? What about all the blocking democrats did during the civil rights movement of the 60's???

The problem to me is todays democrats are so far left that any accomodation results in the lessening of the republic. when confronted with that, compromise is unacceptable.

Marty, there is a particular vileness that entered our party in the post-Reagan era, and it will have to be removed from the GOP if it is to remain a national party.
