There is a lot of pressure on older people to die today. The liberal society has taken age to Clockwork Orange levels. Older people have never been so ill treated as they are in today's more liberal society. Doctors are encouraged, under obamacare paid, to discuss death with older people and lean them toward early death rather than be a burden.

actually any sane person always wanted to die earlier than be a burden. Nobody wants to live until 100 to spend 20+ years in a diaper and in a wheelchair with a PEG tube.

the problem is a disconnect between what we can do and what we should do.

Suicide rates climbing are a perfect indicator of a fat, wealthy, increasingly disillusioned society.

Poor ones have the lowest suicide rate.

Increases in suicide reflect the increases in abortion. It's all about getting rid of the useless. Older people are increasingly propagandized as being useless. That's why crimes against the elderly have skyrocketed. It's as okay to kill old people as it is to kill babies.

The whole idea that "nobody wants" is where it comes from. It's propaganda. You don't want to die. What's wrong with you? Everybody wants to die rather than grow old. Just not wanting to die makes you a lunatic, you are incompetent, and someone has to make that decision for you. Do the right thing, kill yourself.

Actually, that's something liberals say here quite frequently.

There's no question about it--American baby boomers are taking their own lives like never before. Suicide rates in the United States jumped dramatically for 35- to 64-year-olds between 1999 and 2010, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These self-inflicted deaths increased from 13.7 per 100,000 to 17.6. As a result, in 2010 more people died from suicide (38,364) than from car accidents (33,687).

The increase in suicide is particularly acute for older folks: Those aged 50-54 years saw their rates increase from 20.6 per 100,000 to 30.7, a jump of 49.4%. For those aged 55-59 years the rates increased by 47.8%. The rates for women, although much lower than for men, also climbed: "Among women," the report states, "suicide rates increased with age, and the largest percentage increase in suicide rate was observed among women aged 60–64 years (59.7%, from 4.4 to 7.0)."

Is Wall Street's version of capitalism driving up our suicide rates?

We really don't know why humans take their own lives. But we can get a sense of what events correlate with increasing and decreasing suicide rates. Ileana Arias, CDC deputy director, provides some suggestions:

if one wants to blame higher suicide rates upon 'hard times'......is the culprit "cutthroat capitalism" as the writer claims......or is it really 'socialized corporatism'........?

since we've had a socialist marxist in office the past 5 years......i'd say the latter....

It's socialism. It's getting rid of the perceived weak at the high end, in the old, and the low end, in babies. It's devaluation of human life, which is what's driving the spike in attacks on the elderly. Once the liberal socialists have deemed certain people unworthy to live, they are fair game. Kill them steal everything they have, or convince them to kill themselves.
