He's running a long game with a low probability of success. The party hates Cruz. The party hates Trump. Both poll poorly against Hillary. Kasich is the last man standing that the party can stomach. He also polls well against Hillary.

Kasich is hoping to be the nominee in a brokered convention. It highly unlikely. But its the best shot he's got.

Its an understandable question given how little regard GOP voters have for the man. He's current running behind people that have already dropped out of the race.

The GOP primary voters don't want Kasich. Forcing the man on them anyway is unlikely to produce the desired outcome.
