The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates.

Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."

"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.

The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.

The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning.

Understanding history, and government, is not insane. Failing to understand these subjects isn't a mental illness either; it is just IGNORANCE. Fascism isn't left wing; the similarities between Fascism and Communism arise only when examining those entities that have been so governed, and by knowing what the phrases tossed around actually mean. "Marxist" is spit out by those who do not realize Karl Marx theorized the 'state' would fade away within a communist society. The former USSR, and China, have proven that theory to be false, thus far.

Fascism is a meld of corporate & government control of economic activity. Your confusion has arisen from the fact that actual 'communist' governments have invariably been totalitarian. Totalitarianism isn't an economic system, nor a form of government, it is the product of governments and economic systems with inherent flaws.

I suggest that you take some remedial courses

Both communism and fascism are totalitarian; Fascism by definition, communism in practice. They remain direct opposites in their inherent policies; fascists demand state control, communists allege state control will end eventually. It never happens; still, NATIONAL socialism is much different that INTERNATIONAL socialism, few on the right have read enough to understand theory vs. practice, or the translation of the actual words. Socialism in much of Europe does not mean what it does in the US; conservatives are thrilled the NEW DEMOCRACY party won in Greece. Yet the word democracy is derided as applied to the US. That should give those posters a clue, but it has thus far escaped their notice.
