Is the end near for Internal Combustion?

Lately ICE R&D has centered on emissions reduction, fuel economy, computer systems, lightweight materials

So in other words, ICE now operates CLEANER than it ever has, gets better mileage than it ever has, and you want to throw it away all the while jacking up costs and inconvenience ENORMOUSLY while accomplishing ZITCH for the climate, you Tool.

Planning to buy a lower mileage 8cyl Toyota Tundra 4x4 soon.

How about that?
They still sell them and shit... :113:

More auto companies are moving to Electric Vehicles. Nobody is investing in R&D for Internal Combustion. The handwriting is on the wall.

As Ford shifts to producing more electric vehicles, it expects to lay off a number of employees, mostly engineers, in North America over the coming days.

Still uses combustion...
Though they might try
Fuel cells. Interesting...

The dead plants that produced ICE vehicles like the Explorer, have been retooled for EV manufacturing.
Billions have been invested. Take note that the days of the heavy SUV will be numbered also.

There isn’t enough lithium in the world to make EVs for just very American, much less the world.

Combustion engines aren’t going anywhere. They have already found a way to make net zero carbon emissions gasoline.

No car company in the world is investing in ICE

Electric Vehicles Are Draining Billions From Profitable ICE Legacy Automakers With Ford Projecting $3 Billion in Losses

Other Problems The EV Market Must Solve

". . . In addition to the above, other serious problems are standing in the way of the mass adoption of electric vehicles:

  • Inadequate charging infrastructure: It’s improving throughout the country but is far from where it needs to be to handle an ever-growing number of electric vehicles.
  • EV fueling costs: All-encompassing, the cost of fueling an electric vehicle is often higher than a gasoline-powered vehicle. This is a deterrent to consumers who are on the fence.
  • EV prices remain high: Until prices are on par with their gasoline-powered counterparts, electric vehicles will be considered a luxury purchase by most.
As leading automakers like Ford, General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. continue to spend big money — and take big losses — on electric vehicles, several startups are making noise at the bottom of the market.

High-Risk, High Reward

It’s clear that there’s some serious upside associated with the risks involved. From general goodwill associated with their brands to the billions to be made in the current and future EV models. Lucid Group Inc. and Rivian Automotive Inc. are still sitting at premiums compared the ICE market, with many still bullish on the companies. Hence why these legacy automakers are willing to take these risks and invest in these technologies. . . "

Ford says it will lose $3 billion this year making electric cars

General Motors says it will stop burning cash on electric vehicles by 2025

". . . In its most recent earnings report, GM said it’s on track to sell 44,000 Chevy Bolt EVs and EUVs — at a loss — in the US by the end of the year. The Bolt is the company’s lowest priced plug-in model and the only one that it is currently selling in high volume and unprofitably. GM’s other battery-electric models, the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq, are still slowly ramping up production. And next year, the Chevy Silverado EV and Chevy Blazer EV will join the lineup.

GM wants to sell more EVs because it needs to; the company is on a deadline to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. And this isn’t some altruistic measure. A number of US states, led by California, have declared their intent to ban the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035 or later.

Reuss confirmed these plans. By 2040, no Chevy, GMC, or Cadillac dealership in North America will carry gas-powered vehicles. But what about other countries? “Globally, you know, we’ve got markets that are on very much different transition lines,” he said. “So I would gate it with that.”

If it weren't being forced by the government, at the expense of the taxpayers? Nope, it would not happen.

It is a way to enforce more control, and it is a very destructive technology on the environment, this is why they are having a problems getting these rare Earth minerals necessary to meet demand.

The very poor will not be able to afford to drive anymore, and small and medium size towns, more than likely, will never have as much infrastructure to support this type of automobile. Minority communities will be disenfranchised from having cars. . . I see nightmares ahead.

Not to mention there is zero planning for increasing the national infrastructure of our power generation and power grids. We would need to increase electric generation by 30%. Where are the new nuclear reactors and natural gas plants? Oh yea enviro wackos are trying to shut them all down. Solar and wind don’t produce shit, especially at night. So are you going to use all that lithium for giant batteries to power cities at night?

This is what happens when you allow petulant children mandate power policies.

You can figure on capacity being cut to a THIRD so at the very time you need accessories the most to stay alive, wipers, defroster, heater, etc, Biden's stinking EVs will crap out on you.
Yeah, get caught in a snowstorm, turn on the heat, battery peters out quickly, you freeze to death.

Car insurance will go thru the roof. One semi serious accident it's straight to the junk yard. That's how they get you out of your car

In light of your breathless joy at the death of fossil fuel autos, if true this may actually be the end of personal transportation, as 100 million drivers have to ride the bus because there is not enough electricity to meet demand

But if so what happens to homes across America that are without elect also?

Greenies have not thought this through and are acting on simple emotion
