What was referred to as Native American 'Nations' were not really nations in a true sense of the word. They were not united. Native Americans were extremely divided during the French & Indian war, and remained divided. You should read 'The Last of the Mohicans' to get an accurate understanding - it is based on real history.
The closest this there ever could have been to a Native American Nation was when the U.S. government declared most of the Great Plains to be 'Indian Territory'. Native Americans totally failed to form any sort of a united Nation. They were just wild disunited nomads.
They could have done what the Japanese did - send people to get educated in Europe and form alliances with other nations. Get international recognition and form a modern society. They did not.
There's a documentary on either Amazon Prime or Netflix named something like "The Native American Horse Warrior Culture". Watch it and learn.
