Israeli soccer fans burn Beitar Jerusalem offices because of Muslim soccer players

The room of Beitar Jerusalem's building superintendent Meir Harush in the soccer team's training grounds in the capital was set on fire early Friday .

The room contained team paraphernalia including trophies, championship plates, special team shirts and other memorabilia.

An initial Fire Services investigation points to arson. Jerusalem's Fire Services spokesman Assaf Abers said serious damage was caused to the site.

"At about 5 am we received a call about a fire at the Beitar Jerusalem offices, apparently made by a patrol officer who had heard the fire alarm go off," Avers said. "Two teams arrived at the scene and put out the fire. We are investigating the matter."


Harush himself was devastated after learning of the damage. "They burned Beitar's history. How can anyone do such a thing? It's appalling."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in response that he "opposes violence by those who protest the integration of Chechen players into the team. This is shameful behavior."

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat also commented on the incident and said that "the perpetrators are not fans, but simply criminals. This act is reminiscent of the mafia." A special police investigation has been launched into the event.

On Thursday, Jerusalem District Police chief Yossi Pariente, Deputy Attorney General Eli Abarbanel and Beitar Jerusalem's managers discussed ways of fighting racism ignited by the signing of two Muslim players from Chechnya.

Nobody really likes to see this happening, but could you possibly tell us one Muslim country where Jews are on soccer teams. Even at the Oympics, didn't some of your brethren refuse to compete with Jews? If you able to do that, can you tell us any international soccer games where the Israelis are playing that the Muslims don't boo them? By the way, what is the Arabic word for a Black person, Baghdad Bob?

Now isn't that strange when we read stories about what the Arab Muslims are doing to Black Muslims today? Your Arab friends certainly treated those Blacks so nicely during that Libya uprising. As far as slavery, it was your Arab ancestors who rounded up the Blacks in Africa and sold them to the slave traders, and it is the Muslims who are the only group still involved in slavery in this modern world. By the way, you still haven't told us of any Jewish players on Muslim teams. I guess there are none

On Sept. 5, 1972, a Palestinian terrorist group called Black September raided the Israeli team barracks at the Munich Olympic Games, killing two team members and taking nine hostage. The hostages were later killed during a bungled rescue attempt by German authorities.The Munich Massacre


ShareMunich played host to the Games of the XX Olympiad, the first time that Germany had hosted the Games since 1936, when the country was under Nazi rule. Hoping to avoid a militaristic feel and invite a comparison to Hitler’s Games, the organizers kept security to a minimum.

“The Munich Olympics were to be ‘the Carefree Games,’” explains Alexander Wolff in Sports Illustrated. “There would be no place for barbed wire, troops or police bristling with sidearms.” The Olympic Village was protected only by a single 6-foot-tall chain-link fence, and it was common to see athletes jump the fence while returning home.

For the first 10 days, “The Games of Peace and Joy” was a success. But on Sept. 5, at 4:30 a.m., eight members of a Palestinian terrorist group easily made their way past security and used stolen keys to enter two Israeli team apartments in the Olympic Village.

Armed with hand grenades and Kalashnikovs, they startled the athletes and coaches out of their sleep. Many of the athletes and coaches attempted to flee, while wrestling coach Moshe Weinberg and weightlifter Yossef Romano fought back. Both men were killed, and nine other Israelis were taken hostage.

The terrorists demanded the release of 234 prisoners from Israeli jails and two Germans from German jails. After hours of unsuccessful negotiations, the terrorists demanded that they be able to fly to Cairo with their hostages.

That night, the terrorists and hostages were taken by helicopter to Fuerstenfeldbruck military airport, where they were promised there would be a plane waiting to take them to Cairo. German authorities planned for a rescue attempt, with five snipers waiting to shoot the terrorists.

The plan had several flaws, however: authorities had underestimated the number of terrorists, the officers were not trained for such a mission, and they had no way of communicating with each other. When officers dressed as flight crew decided to back out of the mission, they did not alert others.

Two terrorists were taken to the plane; when they found it empty, they raced back to the helicopter and began firing. The snipers, who were not actually trained snipers, had trouble locating the terrorists due to poor lighting. The Germans could do little until four armored cars, which had been caught in traffic, arrived about a hour later.

Upon seeing the cars, the terrorists decided to kill their hostages, who were bound inside the helicopters, with point-blank shots and a hand grenade. When the violence stopped sometime after midnight, five terrorists, a German officer, a pilot and all nine hostages were dead; the remaining three terrorists, who were wounded in the fighting, were arrested.

Their cemetery had to be outside the city walls, they could not own homes or shops, build a synagogue, join the army, or guard the city, though they were taxed for it anyway. In 1655, six Jewish families brought a Torah to New Amsterdam from Holland.

When the British took over, in 1664, they were allowed to form a congregation, Shearith Israel, and in 1730 they built the first Temple in New York."

There's not a lot in here to suggest that 1) there WERE any Dutch Jews in New Amsterdam much before the British took it over (1664) or 2) that the refugee Jews who wound up in N.A. were engaged in the slave trade.
