Border Patrol has a protocol of preliminary vetting upon their crossing, to see if the encounters are immediate rejects or possible asylum seekers, with children, without children, country of origin, any relatives in country where they can stay awaiting court date and crud like that....

Right now, there is no automatic emergency shut down. In December 2023 there was a huge Caravan push at the border and 10,000 plus encounters crossing were occurring each day!!!

This bill would have given border patrol an automatic emergency shut down and capped that crazy crap at 5000, which is half of where it was in December per day.

Every single thing else in that bill was good...

The 5000 emergency cut off cap, could have been changed later to a lower number if Trump ever wins again...

Our law says, once they present themselves to an official, they can claim asylum. In fact, they have up to one year after arrival to make that claim.

The problem with MPP was that like everything else Trump ever did in his life, it was a scam. He had no intention of processing the claims of people who stayed in Mexico.
