I've Never Understood Why Republicans Call Themselves Conservative

Not sure what the term 'Conservative' means anymore. It probably doesn't refer to 'Small or Less Government' anymore. Because neither Party is advancing that agenda. Many Republicans still like to claim they're for 'Small or Less Government', but that's only when they feel it's convenient for them to make such a claim. They're all for Big Government control in most respects. For instance, they're all for Government Freebies as long as they're the ones receiving them.

The reality is, less & less Republicans are even referring to themselves as 'Conservatives' these days. The Party has definitely taken a Left/Big Government turn. I mean, hating gays, minorities, and poor people doesn't make you a 'Conservative.' It just makes you a greedy hateful bigot. To be a real Conservative, you have to stay honest & consistent. Supporting 'Small or Less Government' can't be just a matter of convenience. Republicans have to stop being 'Cherry-Pickers.'

[
I don't understand how you don't mind the Republican party be known as the BORROW and SPEND party. It's the GOP borrowing not the taxing that bankrupted the country.

Taxes take money out of the existing productive economy and puts the money into the hands of inefficient and corrupt politicians elected by special interest groups. Borrowing takes money out of the future economy and puts it into the hands of the same people.

Both are irresponsible.

The problem is not how you pay for excessive spending but the fact that you have the excessive spending.

The fiscal responsible thing to do is not have have excessive taxation and debt by only spending money for the basic necessary government functions. We have massive taxes and debt because we have an out of control welfare state state and interventions policy. Stop the root cause of debt and excessive taxes, don't just try to treat the symptoms.

Both Democrats and Republicans are responsible for high taxes in this country.

Both Democrats and and Republicans are responsible for the high debt in this country.

Trying to ague about who is most responsible while ignoring the fact that the real problem is a debt ridden out of control welfare state government may make for an interesting internet forum discussion but doesn't mean much.

Democrats promise irresponsibility and they always deliver.

Republicans promise responsibility but they usually deliver about the same level of irresponsibility as the Democrats.

Democrats have been tax & spend, Republicans have been borrow & spend.

Between the two, taxing & spending is, by far, more fiscally responsible over the long term.

If you want to really cut spending, keep military spending high AND reduce the deficit/debt, something BIG will have to give.
.
========
Yep the Republicans would have to < shudder > PAY TAXES.

Reagan didn't get the reduction he wanted from the dems, so blaming him for all the spending is retarded. Ignoring the deficit is just as retarded. The libs don't like military spending, we get it. Dems let it falter, Repubs build it back up. But it pales in social spending so the OP is dishonest.

Just another troll thread, just raw data no substance or history on why...

Seems pretty clear why? Because they arent so conservative

You got to give it to the crazies... They never actually looked at what Reagan did but just what he said...
Reagan added the largest percentage increase to Debt since the war followed by G.W Bush. Even Obama is going to beat Bush and he was handed a basket case.

Jimmy Carter cut military spending drastically (resulting in things like the Iran hostage crises) forcing Reagan to increase that spending (resulting in things like the demise of the Soviet Union).

Bill Clinton cut military spending forcing Bush to repair the damage by increasing it.

Do you see the pattern here?
The military Bush 43 inherited was built by Bush 41 and Clinton. He destroyed and squandered what he was given. You can not name one significant change GW made when he took over as CiC that increased readiness of US Forces OTHER THAN TO EXPLOIT THE NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVES.

They debt was $10.6 trillion the day Obama took office. It's now $18.1 trillion.
Looks like Obama increased the debt by a larger amount than any previous president.
Bush spending commitments do not end the day he leaves office. The debt at the end of Bush's last fiscal year was nearly 12 trillion and the 2 trillion in interest on that debt can hardly be blamed on Obama, if you were honest.

The debt at the end of Bush's last fiscal year was nearly 12 trillion

Why do you feel that?

Not all of them do. what I don't understand is how you don't mind the Democrat party be known as the TAX and SPEND party. what I can't understand is why you liberals don't care if your party spends us into bankruptcy. all this wailing you do about Republicans. clean up your own screwed up party you support

Hey Numbnuts!!!! You obviously didn't even look at the first chart. Obama's spending has been trivial compared to Reagan and the Bushes. It's amazing what cooling down two hot wars and bringing home 60,000-80,000 troops will do for the financial affairs of the nation...not to mention the hundreds or thousands of young American lives which will be spared because of it.

John McCain wrote the official theme song of the Republican party..."Bomb Bomb Bomb....Bomb Bomb Iran!!
It should be a smash hit.

Pretty soon they'll be bombing us......thanks to big ears.

Bullshit.

Obama added to it. Stimulus, half of TARP....

That's an extra $1.3 trillion.
Bullshit!

Very little stimulus spending took place during Bush's last fiscal year, estimates range from 140 billion to 203 billion, not even close to your phony 1.3 trillion.

Why do you feel that?
It's a FACT, not a "feeling."

What was the last budget Bush signed?
Bush signed a massive spending bill Sept 30, 2008, a bank bailout Oct 3, 2008 and the largest cost of living increase for Social Security since 1982 in Oct 2008.

So he didn't sign the entire 2009 FY budget and he shouldn't be blamed for TARP spending that was repaid or Obama's portion of the 2009 budget. So actually we're down to about $10.4 trillion when he left office.

Not to mention the $700 billion he stole from Medicare later.......so spare me. Obama spent money that never ended on the books. He ran up the debt so he could set a high baseline for future budgets.
