Is there any here from that part of the world who has an opinion about this -- whether to gain independence from the United Kingdom or not. It appears that the author J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame is putting her money where her mouth is and is against this happening.

J.K. Rowling donates big to keep Scotland in the U.K.

'Harry Potter' author backs campaign to keep Scotland in the United KingdomBeing part of Britain 'saved [Scotland] from economic catastrophe,' J.K. Rowling saysScottish voters will decide in September whether the country should split off from the United KingdomThree months before Scottish voters decide whether their country will split off from Britain, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has thrown her weight behind a campaign to preserve Scotland’s union with England and Wales.

Rowling donated $1.7 million to the anti-independence Better Together campaign and, in a post on her website, explained her stance.

If we leave ... there will be no going back.

- Author J.K. Rowling, on whether Scotland should stay part of the United Kingdom
“Scotland is subject to the same 21st century pressures as the rest of the world,” wrote Rowling, a longtime resident of the country. “It must compete in the same global markets, defend itself from the same threats and navigate what still feels like a fragile economic recovery.”

Is scotland the ones who drink a lot or the ones who wear kilts

Both along with battering their wives and girlfriends and using streets as toilets

So good to see the level of debate restricting itself to derogatory stereotypes :(

J.K.'s intervention was plastered across the media but it didn't gain much attention in the discussions I was involved in or saw. Celebrity endorsements haven't changed much or drawn much attention at voter/pundit level. Unionists saw it as an endorsement of there position (obviously) and independence supporters saw her using the very arguments that they feel they have already toppled. From what I saw even the undecided's just sighed.

Thankfully, the debate here seems to be more about substance and less about who is saying it.

10 points to Gryffindor!

Seriously, I don't understand why countries should be forced to take in all those who want to come. I don't think this was like that in the past. Perhaps the man being interviewed should ask himelf how those who want to come to Scotland from his original native land could better their conditions there so that they don't have to immigrate. By the way, since he was interviewed by a Russian paper, he should have asked if Russia was willing to take in some of his people. Does anyone know if Russia is taking in any of the immigrants from Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, etc.?

From the Scottish point of view, the independence makes sense. The independence will allow Scotland better control over its resources. In other words, they will be better off financially.

The campaign for Scottish independence continues to gain ground against its pro-union rival, two surveys showed on Sunday, as pollsters near consensus that the race is getting ever-tighter ahead of the September referendum.

A record 43 percent back the campaign for independence, according to the latest poll by Panelbase, up two points from May, with the percentage against dropping one point to 46 percent.

The Panelbase poll of 1060 voters, commissioned by the "Yes" campaign, found that once undecideds were excluded, support for secession grew to 48 percent, with 52 percent against.

Outside of the UK, Scotland's economic future will be third world.

I already started a thread on this subject a while back when I was still relatively new on this forum. It seems like you probably missed that thread and also it looks like you are ill informed on economic viability of an independent Scotland. That thread was started with a comprehensive collection of data that made a case for Scottish independence. I will go ahead and post that link below again. You can read it and then we can debate. But none of that stereotypical abuse, please.
