Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki also known as Hibakusha, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.

"Hibakusha [are] receiving the Peace Prize for [their] efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its citation.

This is very cool. I did not know there were enough survivors left to have a group. Good on them and on the committee for recognizing them!

Hopefully we can avoid a global thermal nuclear war.

Imagine being closer now than during the height of the Cold War in the 60s through 80s?

Astounding. Global leaders are not doing a very good job.

Worrying about nuclear war is soooo ‘80s.

Not according to the global authority on the matter, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. Google "Doomsday Clock". The clock the world has been referring to for decades. It moves closer to midnight (which means a nuclear war) and further depending on the risk.

Right now it is 90 seconds to midnight, the closest in history.

Hey man, don't shoot the Messenger.

I would have thought that the 13 Days during JFK would have been when it was at its peak. Or perhaps the day that Petrov didn't accept what his monitors in Russia were telling him about a nuclear attack from the U.S and he ignored it. Costing him his rank and his sanity over the years. He saved millions of lives.

Which is why they are a bunch of drama queens.
