Japanese atomic bomb survivors' group wins 2024 Nobel Peace Prize

Nobel Committee cites Nihon Hidankyo for work against nuclear weapons

Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki also known as Hibakusha, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.

"Hibakusha [are] receiving the Peace Prize for [their] efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its citation.

This is very cool. I did not know there were enough survivors left to have a group. Good on them and on the committee for recognizing them!

I would have thought that the 13 Days during JFK would have been when it was at its peak. Or perhaps the day that Petrov didn't accept what his monitors in Russia were telling him about a nuclear attack from the U.S and he ignored it. Costing him his rank and his sanity over the years.
