Jesus is Cool

I'm serious.
Me, too. It was against his religion to feed what he considered sinners.

I won't take communion.

I'm not Catholic but my wife is. My mother-in-law has passed, but I used to take her to Sunday mass when she visited. (My wife refused to attend.) I never liked the idea of taking a wafer from a stranger's hands, and drink from a cup 100 other people drank from.

that was very nice of you to take her mom... but she refused to attend? <--- :slap: (no offense)

It was complicated.

He helps people. He says to love people. He rises from the dead. He can feed crowds of people with a few fish. He died for our sins. He doesn't wear shoes.

How cool is that?

I am not so sure that's true, Ravi. First of all, there are problems with almost all of the Bible verses that have been translated into English as being anti-homosexual. We all know what they are and, no, I am not going to go through it all again. Everyone knows there is still argument over correct translations. One would assume that Jesus would know the correct interpretation but apparently He never said a word about it to provide us with any clarity.

Jesus would often go against the standard beliefs of the day as well. How many times do the scriptures have Jesus saying "I know you have heard that but I tell you this". "I know it is written that but I tell you this"? How many times does Jesus argue with the Pharisees and Sadducees about interpretation? How many times does he tell them that they misunderstood? A lot....quite a lot actually.

So Jesus had a tendency to disagree with standard theological thought, He never took a stance on the issue of homosexuality (or if He did it was never recorded) so we really have no idea what His position was.

HOWEVER, Jesus also surrounded Himself with and ministered to sinners and He taught us to love them just like everyone else. So first...Jesus surrounded Himself with sinners because they were the people that needed salvation. There's no mention that He surrounded Himself with homosexuals in order to save them from their sin? He ministered to everyone else that was sinning. Why not homosexuals? Does it mean that He never ran into any? Pfft...hardly. Does it mean that perhaps He never ministered to them because He did not view it as a sin and therefore, they were doing nothing that required forgiveness and His ministry? It's an interesting argument. He ministered to every other category of sinner but never to homosexuals. Why? Is it that they were beyond saving? That doesn't jive because Jesus said everyone can be saved. Or is it because they have done nothing that requires saving? Who knows? Scripture doesn't tell us.

What scripture does tell us is that Jesus said that, aside from loving God, the most important commandment was to treat everyone else, even your enemies, as you would treat yourself. Thus, the message I learn from Jesus is to love everyone, allow people to do as they will and God Himself will determine if that is a problem...that is between them and God, and let people walk their own path though life.

It is my personal belief as a Christian (and as a Republican BTW) that Christians should stop attacking homosexuals because Jesus taught us to love everyone, even those who hate us. Christians should stop being intolerant of homosexuality, because Jesus said that God is the only one with the authority to pass judgment. And Christians should worry more about their own sins and their own salvation than those of others because Jesus told us to remove the log from our own eye before we try to remove the splinter from another's. In other words, Jesus said 'look mother fucker. Until you are blameless and perfect with God, shut the fuck up and worry about your own defects rather than those of others'.

So there we go. I have had my say/tantrum/whatever you wish to call it. Personally, as a Christian....I speculate that Jesus would welcome a homosexual into His presence and give him the love of God just like every other person He encountered.

Ok I am done lecturing. You know how I get when I get fired up.
Very nicely written.

Not much nutrition in those little wafers though.
I think they're pretty good. I'd buy them as snacks if they sold them at the store.

I haven't had one in something like 55 years but I guess, with enough sacramental wine, I could choke them down.

How about some nice brie and a spicy mustard ... ?

Maybe you'll just choke.

You could wipe some of that shit off your nose where you pulled it out of your ass.

Your "jesus" is not the same Jesus I learned about as a kid. Not even close.

i can relate to that ! ;)

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood, the blood of the covenant,

"I have not come to bring peace but a sword." Matthew 10:34

"Take from my hand this cup of fiery wine and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. When they have drunk it they will vomit and go mad; such is the sword that I am sending among them." Jeremiah 25:15

"I will force your oppressors to eat their own flesh and make them drunk with their own blood as if with new wine." Isaiah 49:26

"Just art thou, in these thy judgments, thou Holy One who art and wast; for they shed the blood of thy people and of thy prophets and thou hast given them blood to drink" Revelation 16:5

Very cool......

:wine:

Bottoms up!

Even when words are put in such a way that one would think they could only be taken allegorically, there is the danger of willful misinterpretation.

Whatever you may credit Jesus with (peace on him), Muhammad was way more than that (peace be upon him and his family).

I don't know what you mean by "cool", but Jesus was definitely determined and resolute.

Muhammad was more determined and resolute. As an example, when his mission started, people panicked. The society that would bury girls alive was threatened by the teachings of Muhammad. He converted people and preached nobility of purpose and conduct. The chiefs of the society came to him. They told him whatever he wanted, they shall give him; be it power, wealth, women to marry and so on...he just needs to give up this new message. Muhammad replied reciting some verses of the Qur'an.

Jesus and all prophets were pleased to receive Muhammad on the occasion of the Night Journey. They were pleased, they honored him and acknowledged his leadership over them:

"Then we ascended to the second heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was said, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' It was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!" Then I met Jesus and Yahya (John) who said, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the third heaven...."

This excerpt from Muhammad's speech on the Night Journey indicates that the prophets (including Jesus) were pleased to receive him, they honored him and acknowledged his leadership over them.

More unsubstantiated garbage, if any of this is in a hadith please give reference numbers. As for the Quran, all it seems to say about the night journey is this.

17.1 Glory to (God) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the
Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that
We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all
things).

Between moments of dispensing wisdom, it seems that historical religious leaders had also learned software programming. One day, a great contest was held to test their skills.

After days and days of fierce competition, only two leaders remained for the last day's event: Jesus and Mohammed.

The judge described the software application required for the final test, and gave the signal to start writing code.

The two contestants feverishly typed away on their keyboards. Routines, classes, applets and applications flew by on their screens at incredible speeds. Windows, dialogs, and other intricate graphics began forming on their monitors. The clock showed that the contest would soon be finished.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightening flashed and the power went out. After a moment it came back on - just in time for the clock to announce that the last competition was over.

The judge asked the two contestants to reveal their finished software. Mohammed angrily said that he'd lost it all in the power outage. The judge turned to the other competitor. Jesus smiled, clicked a mouse and a dazzling application appeared on his screen. After just a few moments, the judge was clearly impressed and declared Jesus the victor.

When asked why the decision was made, the judge pointed out the unique characteristic that set the winner apart from all the other leaders:

Jesus saves.
